As I know little about Duncan Hunter's skills of pursuasion I will not judge them now. I do believe that having been a U.S. Ranger in combat demonstrates a certain degree of not only physical stamina and toughness, but also a high level of commitment, personal discipline and leadership. It's probably the hardest thing he's ever had to do in his life, and he apparently did it well. Certainly I hold his combat service in higher regard than Rudy's war against the grave threat of the New York squeegee men.

I'd forgotten those horrible signs in the car windows! Thanks for reminding me. Note to anti-Rudies: please read these threads from NYers. We know what we're talking about.

I remember it all, Miss Didi: a total nightmare.

Do you still live in NYC? Because under Bloomberg I am again seeing really filthy homeless people clearing subway cars. I'm talking about the 1,2,3 trains...depressing.

Yes, I do. I'm usually on the 6 most days which is jam packed with UESiders. There's still a strong police presence on the platforms; I'm surprised they aren't throwing the homeless off the trains.

I remember in the 80's taking the 1,2,3 line with a friend at Macys and getting on an express by accident. We were chatting away and the next thing we knew we were the only white people on board; next stop was 125th St. The conductor came out of his booth, screamed at us for being there, told us to get off and run like hell to the other platform and jump on the first southbound train. Those were nightmare days indeed.

I would never try to take anything away from someone's military service. It's something that quite frankly I would not have the guts to do, let alone do it successfully.

That being said, we're not offering a combat position here. For anyone who becomes President, or aspires to the position, skills of persuasion are infinitely more important than combat ability. So if you haven't looked at his skills of persuasion, it's time to do so now.

A lot of people with distinguished records and high pedigrees have tried and failed to get government to work.

Rudy Giuliani did, and in the position he's seeking, you have to think of that as a huge plus.
