As I know little about Duncan Hunter's skills of pursuasion I will not judge them now. I do believe that having been a U.S. Ranger in combat demonstrates a certain degree of not only physical stamina and toughness, but also a high level of commitment, personal discipline and leadership. It's probably the hardest thing he's ever had to do in his life, and he apparently did it well. Certainly I hold his combat service in higher regard than Rudy's war against the grave threat of the New York squeegee men.

I would never try to take anything away from someone's military service. It's something that quite frankly I would not have the guts to do, let alone do it successfully.

That being said, we're not offering a combat position here. For anyone who becomes President, or aspires to the position, skills of persuasion are infinitely more important than combat ability. So if you haven't looked at his skills of persuasion, it's time to do so now.

A lot of people with distinguished records and high pedigrees have tried and failed to get government to work.

Rudy Giuliani did, and in the position he's seeking, you have to think of that as a huge plus.
