LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Officials detained an Iraqi man during a security scare at Los Angeles International airport on Tuesday but said a suspicious object found in a body cavity search did not pose a threat.
The man, identified by law enforcement officials as Fadhel al-Maliki, 35, was detained at passenger screening at the airport just before 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
The bomb squad was called as a precaution and authorities said they found wires in his clothing and a magnet inside a lower body cavity.
The man was preparing to board a US Airways flight to Philadelphia. The flight left without the passenger but with his luggage aboard. It made an unscheduled landing in Las Vegas where the plane was thoroughly searched but nothing was found.
excuse my typos, I just woke up and busting a gut reading about this!
PING (apologies if you're already here... haven't read it all yet.)
Now I can't stop laughing!
Yes, I see a lot of laughter here on this thread.
I'm not laughing and thank you for the ping cgk.
They could call him "the Splendid Sphincter", but that's already taken by Bawney Fwank.
That's the worst picture of Helen Thomas I've ever seen. LOL.
No, it does not.
About December, 2001, I advised Homeland Security of this after I couldn't sleep. (After having dreamed up the scenario of Eye of Unkonly "better"). Perhaps that foreknowledge was the reason HS found this guy, though I expected a far more comprehensive screening technique to result.
9/11 has cost us $1 Trillion. At what cost would the loss of the commercial jet transportation industry be?
The taxpayers will cough up a few $Billion for digital x-ray machines and the techs to run them?
What would you prefer they do? Publicize that the FBI has him under surveillance and has examined all of his emails and phone calls?
The news blurb on FNC this morning made light of it as well - treated the story as if he was a nutcase ("claimed the rock was from another planet") with no mention of his being Iraqi.
A human butt bomb? Let's hope one or more of the human components passes on falafels for lunch.
Now that's funny.. LOL
It's to point his ass to the North so that he can find Mecca.
So magnet-boy goes through first, then others slip through with more dangerous "payloads" while the scanner is partly blind.
Insidious.

Thank you for mentioning the trillion-dollar-hit our GDP took from 911--no one ever mentions that. It is no small thing--it is the impact which Stalin and Mao et all would have given divisions or cities for. All for boxcutters and nineteen expendable jihadischmucks.
I have no idea and neither do you! But, if they were doing this it wouldn't make sense to publicize it! Either way, we won't hear anything!
We would expect no more incidents such as described by Special Agent Colleen Rowley.
We would insist they not be precluded from doing their job by the lobbying efforts of CAIR--although public statements by Director Mueller are disappointing to say the least.
