Edwards: Jesus Would Be 'Appalled' at U.S.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards says Jesus would be appalled at how the United States has ignored the plight of the suffering, and that he believes children should have private time to pray at school.

Edwards, in an interview with the Web site Beliefnet.com, said Jesus would be most upset with the selfishness of Americans and the country's willingness to go to war "when it's not necessary."

"I think that Jesus would be disappointed in our ignoring the plight of those around us who are suffering and our focus on our own selfish short-term needs," Edwards told the site. "I think he would be appalled, actually."

Edwards also said he was against teacher-led prayers in public schools, but he added that "allowing time for children to pray for themselves, to themselves, I think is not only OK, I think it's a good thing."

In the interview, the former North Carolina senator discussed how he lost touch with his day-to-day faith during college, but that it "came roaring back" after the death of his 16-year-old son, Wade, in 1996.

If you use abbreviations then you should understand that most people do not understand what you mean. Some are easier to understand than others but you still eliminate a portion of the people you want to communicate with when you use abbreviations. So if you CKYPIYP you are not going to WYAD.

Why do you assume that most people know that fact? You didn't understand mine and I know many people who understand completely what I said to you. The trouble is when people use such abbreviations you eliminate a portion of your audience, force another portion to have to take time to translate what you could have avoided by just using the English Language properly and communicating with everyone instead of just being hip with your closed community of friends.

You have no clue do you? I never would have guessed. Open mouth and a closed mind gets one in trouble all the time. Maybe you should think how you are perceived instead of trying to impress people with shallow snobbery.

I have a clue! I understand what Galt's Gulch is (internet communities appear to be the only hope for a real one) and according to google, Jon Galt is a porn star. But I don't understand why you get on MY case when abbreviations are used all over the place. I learned this abbreviation on FR along with many others. At one time I had a list of internet abbreviations but must have deleted it. I can try to find another if you desire.
I just believe you like to argue and therefore would not be a good candidate for living in "Galt's Gulch" where like minded people would have to get along with one another-IMHO (oops I did it again).

PPS. I pick on anyone and everyone that uses language improperly. All societies declined when the use of their language became slang and descended into the gutter. I am just trying to prevent further declination of the English language. Look at history of other extinct countries and will see that language, art and morals all declined before the country became totally despotic and then extinct.

Good luck with your mission. I'm glad someone is taking it up. As you know from reading many posts on this site it, it is going to be a big job. It seems that the more the internet is used, the more abbreviations we see.
