I don't know about single handedly, Alan Moore (Watchmen and other good stuff) and Neil Gaiman (Sandman) had big hands in the comics for grown-ups revolution. Not sure about saved either, the comic industry was making money hand over fist while those guys were coming up the ranks, and really the grown-up change over seems to have hurt the industry in the long run. It's great having comics that can appeal to a 30-something, but 30-something readers started off as 10 year-old comic fans and with the adult themes and move to specialty stores the industry is having a hard time getting those 10 year-olds (then there's the price, also wounds the youth market).
I love Frank's stuff (and Alan and Neil too) and look forward to the movie. But let's not overstate things for any of the 3.
Yeah, I saw that one at the drive-in when I was a kid.
Ping.
I never imagined I might hear someone making these remarks on NPR (of all places) in this day and age. Frank Miller is the man...and I thought that even before hearing this interview.
