The Talk Shows
Sunday, March 4th, 2007
Guests to be interviewed today on major television talk shows:
FOX NEWS SUNDAY (Fox Network): Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.; Reps. Pete Hoekstra, R-Mich., and Charles Rangel, D-N.Y.
MEET THE PRESS (NBC): Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.
FACE THE NATION (CBS): Sens. Carl Levin, D-Mich., and Joe Lieberman, I-Conn.
THIS WEEK (ABC): Sens. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and Trent Lott, R-Miss.; Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.
LATE EDITION (CNN) : U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad; Sens. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., and Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.; Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo.
LOL
Maybe he is right. I hope not. I actually think he has greatly underestimated the aversion to him among those in the party he purports to belong to.
During this same interview, Rangel was attributing the deficit problems with the tax cuts for the wealthy. Then later he said he wants to redistribute them which would mean by logical extension that the financial problems that Rangel was attributing to the tax cut would not be solved - thus destroying his previous assertions. Chris Wallace has no follow up to this contridiction.
Having followed Wallace closely for these past 4 weeks, I conclude the following:
1. Wallace does prepare upfront and asks some decent questions but he is unable to follow-up effectively. He does try to occasionally challenge but only within the narrow context of his prepared questions. His ability to engage on the fly is poor. Most interviewers have this problem so Wallace is not relatively poor to his profession.
2. Wallace's ability to get worthwhile comments from his guests is dubious. I include the famous Clinton interview in that. Wallace did have a good journalistic intent to get the right questions but he fell prey to Clinton's tirade (which I believe was planned). Clinton's behavior was the story as opposed to the information gleaned from the interview.
3. Having opposing party representatives interviewed at the same time is almost universally miserably handled by the LSM. While it is largely due to the fact that even when challenging responses (which are more often not done), almost all interviewers allow the guests to slither away with a non responsive answer. Wallace is more hostage to his prepared question agenda rather than on obtaining effective responses.
This week, I initially had the feeling that it was not a notable week, either positive or negative, for Wallace.
I credit his preparation and wanting to do a meaningful interview, however, he is no Tony Snow or Brit Hume. He is not even as good as Russert (although he shows less bias).
This concludes my 4 week analysis of Chris Wallace.
Freepers used to have little local get-togethers. I went to two; one was just about 20 of us in a bar/restaurant and one was quite a large gathering (I think) in Euless. David Gold was there, along with that blonde lawyer who grew up with Clinton and was one of his wimmen. (Dallas area)
We don't seem to do that anymore, or, at least, I'm not invited.
Thanks Mo1.
I think that the adulation from the MSM over the past 6 plus years went to what's left of his brain. No trust.
Absolutely one of the best posts on FR! Wonderful photos and stats.
Reality in Iraq really contrasts strikingly with the LSM/DBM/dinosaur media's "reporting" from the Green Zone bunkers.
A Baptist and a Methodist in name only the same as their marriage IMHO
If I was one of the church members I would be asking my leadership team what in world were they doing allowing this to happen in what is supposed to be God's house.
I suspect you are right.
People treat these folks with such adulation and deference, they come to think they actually deserve it. McCain more than most.
I believe they do have another one though. I am certain I saw a photo when Bill was recovering from his surgery of a dog next to his car.
If a Republican just "attends" church on a regular basis they are considered Jesus "freaks" by some.
A Democrat can do just as Obama and Hillary did and are considered "enlightened" and just being respectful.
Two entirely different takes by our different parties. I may also add the reporting by our MSM is differential too.
GWB would have been reported as "pandering" by NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, etc.
It happens in any situation where someone is escalated who didn't earn it. In Travels with George, W told Andrea Pelosi that the other MSM types in the plane were not her real friends. I think she respected that he told her that, but she didn't believe him.
He was right.
Plus who wants to fight it out with their pastor? If you don't agree with the way the sermons are going, there are usually other churches that may be more welcoming.
You're correct. I had forgotten about Seamus who was donated to the Clinton's.
