Most of the eBay sales are for fun and are very funny. Here are a few descriptions....
"Here you have 5 full years of high volume CARBON OFFSETS to purchase against your consumption of energy. Al Gore says everyone who consumes more energy than they should will be required to purchase CARBON OFFSETS. Al speaks the truth. Please see the pictures for a better description. This is a 10 mile square area of PRISTINE WILDERNESS with enough CARBON OFFSETS for a lifestyle of 20 Al Gore's! The MASSIVE amount of ENERGY CONSUMED by the 400 LB Al Gore could be offset easily by this purchase. Good luck bidding!"
"Car-Ban Off-Sets For Sale!
If you use more energy than some on the left think that you should and would like those people to think you are more concerned about the environment than you truly are (without spending big bucks for those worthless carbon offsets)
then Car-Ban Off-Sets are for you!
These Off-Sets are good for one thing
and one thing only
to tell people that you have paid good money for green Off-Sets to make it seem like you havent used any energy at all! Imagine how you (and they) will feel when you can go about your life and do whatever you would like to do, whenever you would like to do it, and go wherever you would like to go (just like Al Gore), without worry or guilt! Go ahead, take your wife or significant other on your private jet or helicopter for a quick jaunt to your favorite restaurant in LA. Just tell them that you are Car-Ban neutral and that you have purchased Off-Sets. "

At least those guys are up front and are making a statement with humor. By doing this they are at least getting the message of the absurdity of the idea out there.

Excellent article. I wonder if Al really believes his own BS or if he knows in his heart he's a hypocrite and a modern day snake oil salesman?
To: Tom D.
When I say "we," I don't mean Al, of course. I mean you -- yes, you, Earl Schlub, in the basement apartment at 29 Elm St. You're irresponsibly depleting the Earth's resources by using that electric washer when you could be down by the river with the native women beating your loin cloth dry on the rock while singing traditional village work chants all morning long. But up at the Gore mansion -- the Nashville Electric Service's own personal gold mine, the shining Cathedral of St. Al, Tennessee's very own Palace of Versal -- the Reverend Al is being far more environmentally responsible. As his spokesperson attempted to argue, his high energy usage derives from his brave calls for low energy usage. He's burning up all that electricity by sending out faxes every couple of minutes urging you to use less electricityROTFLMAO at this raging hypocrite

OK, bloggers ... your next assignment is to find out how much of the money given to Generation Investment Management LLP is chewed up by salaries, commissions, and expense accounts, and how much Algore is paid in Directors Fees.
There has been some misreporting here. As far as I can tell,
Generation Investment Management LLP is NOT a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. However,
About 5% of their profits are supposedly allocated to a 501(c)(3) charity called
The Generation Foundation, which appears to be primarily
involved in economic development in the Cleveland area. (GIM LLP's profits must not be too high - TGF only took in $170,000 in 2005). Al Gore is does NOT sit on the
board of trustees of that charity. Nor is he listed on its Advisory Board.
According to its
2005 tax return, The Generation Foundation has no employees and only a little overhead. It generally makes grants to other Cleveland-area economic development organizations. For example, in 2005, it gave grants to
The Cleveland Clinic for a medical innovation conference and
NorTech for various regional technology issues. It's not clear to me what either institutions necessarily have to do with the fight against Global Warming
TM.

Isn't it ironic that the high priest of the Ecopalyptic Church of Global Warming flunked out of divinity school?

Isn't it ironic that the high priest of the Ecopalyptic Church of Global Warming flunked out of divinity school? Ohh, good one. These is something sort of "cosmic" about that fact.

But then I couldn't write "Brilliant!" with the 2 Guinness cartoon guys in mind. Plus I'd rather have a Guinness than a molson or Labatts.

Generation Investment Management LLP itself has some interesting
stock positions in such "green" companies as General Electric (we bring aircraft engines to life), AQuantive (sending you pop-up ads on Algore's Internet), and Staples Corp (selling dead trees, for you to write on). They also hold stock in various investment banks, insurance, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, a prepared meal seller and a
doggie health care company (keeping carbon "polluting" animals alive longer). They also own stock in a few environmentally trendy companies, like Whole Foods and Metabolix, for green street cred - but holdings in those companies pale in comparison to GIM's stake in the others.
