I run Windows 98 (I hate change), and I've had AVG from Grisoft since 1998 ... a free anti virus that is no longer supported for Win98.
Is there another freeware antivirus program anyone will recommend?
Thanx.
Yes, I'm logged in and I'm watching my sister and a moose eat cheeze in the shower ... stuning!
Thailand?
I have windows ME on this computer and I use Avast! It's free and seems to do the job.
win 98??
...you're doomed.
Sorry, you can't have it both ways. Upgrade Windows and stick with AVG.
Avast
I was running Windows 98SE for about 3 years (2003-2006) with no virus protection whatsoever and didn't have any problems at all. I just didn't run MS Outlook on that machine (web-based email only), and I didn't use file sharing software or visit suspect websites. I'm not saying this will work every time, but it worked for me. And I wouldn't have done that if I had been higher-risk, either.
I doubt there's anything out there. At this point, you are really being limited by your OS.
Honestly, upgrade. Get a Windows XP machine, or buy a Mac Mini.
Go to google.com and get their free tools. Last time I checked, a free 6-month sub to Norton Anti-Virus was available.
AVG
What you really want is a Fire Wall.
Try Zone Alarm.
Haven't run an Anti-Virus program since installing it.
AVAST
www.clamwin.com
Clamwin is also my choice in this area.
Here's what I do:
I have tried Norton, McaFee, etc. They suck, they take over your computer.
I never use internet explorer, and I am careful about why I download, and I use a firewall.
Once every few weeks I do the free housecall antivirus scan.
No problems
That being said, someone will tell you to get a Mac. That is the right choice if you are gay.
USe Avast PRO! its has a free 60 day trial then it turns into the home version if you don't buy it.
Download.com has a bunch of free stuff from PC magazine.
I loved it when I used Windoze. I am now a proud Linux user..Will never go back
