A [NM] House committee has approved two measures that would replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Day.
Rep. Irvin Harrison, D-Gallup, who introduced both a bill (HB 1200) and a nonbinding memorial (HM 27), noted that nearly 200,000 Indian people live in New Mexico and said Indigenous Day "would be the perfect way to honor their contributions, accomplishments, history and culture."
Native students at the University of New Mexico Law School asked Harrison to sponsor the legislation. Many Native Americans have campaigned for Columbus Day to be dropped as a state holiday because it honors Christopher Columbus and is seen as a celebration of the conquest and ensuing bloodshed of native people on this continent.

This must be what the last days of the Roman Empire was like.
No kidding.
So, they will honour all the critters that were in the Americas before humans migrated to them from Eastern Asia?
Screw Columbus, he stole the title from Lief Ericson. The Norse were here before him but there was nothing worth stealing to make them stay. Columbus never discovered America 1st because it was occupied when he landed here. I've always favored a Crazy Horse Day in lieu of Columbus Day.
"This must be what the last days of the Roman Empire was like."
Without a doubt. It seems that America is constantly looking for ways to divide herself and commit national suicide. It's depressing.
BTW, I know this is very non PC, but the Indians contribution was to be primative, and easy to conquer.
Up next in the Legislature, a bill to change Christmas to Santa Claus Day.
Indigenous Day?
The Indigenous had the Americas for 10,000 years and were still living in tents and wearing animal skins. In 500 years the newcomers replaced them and developed technology that allows us to sit in our heated and lit homes watching reality TV.
Well, OK, forget the reality TV.
Sadly, this will be another excuse to get falling down drunk.
What I found interesting in reading history is that in 1492 India (which Columbus thought he'd reached) was called Hindustan at that time, so, he didn't call the natives he met "Indians" because he thought he was there, but, in writing back to his sponsors he said he met some people who were "in Deos" as in "people in god" ... hence the name "Indeos" or Indian ......

Indigenous Day,ha,ha,ha, what do theses people do? stay up nights dreamin up this crap ???
Well, the indigenous did eventually bring about Indian Casinos. About on par with reality TV.
"Indigenous Day,ha,ha,ha, what do theses people do? stay up nights dreamin up this crap ???"
Apparently so.
They'd still be too worried with keeping warm, eating, and fighting off disease and enemy tribes to worry about such pleasantries and extravagances as trying to diss the very people who have ultimately been the source of their freedom and prosperity.
Oh...but I forgot...that's not what this is really about anyway. What it really is about is a bunch of malcontent, left leaning, socialistic, marxistic individuals trying to undercut and water down the American culture of freedom and prosperity that they so hate.
"...their contributions, accomplishments, history and culture."
Which were.............................?
Sorry, most of the weeds out here are from someplace else, too. Like tumbleweeds (Russian thistle) from the Ukraine.
