Romney wins narrowly while Rudy Giuliani (a client) finishes a strong second:
Romney 21%
Giuliani 17%
Brownback 15%
Gingrich 14%
McCain 12%
On combined first and second place choices, it's a win for Rudy:
Giuliani 34%
Gingrich 30%
Romney 30%
That's not too shabby. Romney's people spent thousands of dollars getting their folks to CPAC. It seemed like every other person in line for Romney's speech yesterday had an official Mitt t-shirt on -- and he certainly was being attacked as though he was the man to beat. Even so, Rudy manages to pull off a near-win by just showing up and has the most first and second place votes.
The question of whether conservatives can support Rudy Giuliani was answered pretty decisively this week.

Let's see here. Rudy got 17% at a conservative forum (CPAC).
Here on a 'so-called' conservative forum, in the last three polls, Rudy has gotten 32%, 28%, 23%.
It seems like FreeRepublic is LESS conservative than CPAC.
Interesting, very interesting.

After seeing all the speeches LIVE yesterday Did you run into any other Freepers? Did you see our Freeper LS there? He was there LIVE also and gave a great report and had a different opinion on the Romney-Giuliani speeches here.

It is truly unfair to Duncan. I wish he had the charisma to win.

Jeeze I would win the CPAC poll too if I brought in busloads of college students to cheer me on. LOL!

I watched the C-Span coverage. I want to get a link to Duncan Hunter's speech.
To: TAdams8591
He had the best speech by far yesterday.
To: PhiKapMom
Yeah, I got a hair trigger sometimes.
To: JCEccles
The lesson here is that Rudy got out-hustled and out-organized by Romney Sure but he had to pay to bus in thousands of college students to scream out his name. Rudy didn't bus in anyone. Not bad.

I watched many of the CPAC speeches and they were great! That being said, where is FR's favorite son, Duncan Hunter? I would expect him to do better in a room full of very conservative folks?

It seems like FreeRepublic is LESS conservative than CPAC. There does seem to be a significant libertine, not necessarily leftist, contingent on FR. That would explain it.

Duncan Hunter is not one of the Blue blazer, wing tip Republicans, so is pushed aside.
He is a war vet who doesn't wear it on his sleeve
His son 2 tours in Iraq insead of playing school.

During Rudy's speech, all those Romney t-shirt wearing warriors were gathered around the monitors in the hall watching Rudy. :)

True, Romney may have done it better. He has a well-earned reputation for out-organizing and our-executing the competition. That's how he succeeded so well in business.
He's got plenty of money and organizational talent. This is what we should expect from a businessman with political experience.
He really needed to pull some good news out. His recent slip in other polls didn't look too good.
To: ajolympian2004
Romney is a SHARP, extremely articulate, intelligent, handsome and likable guy. Excellent public speaker.
I only saw his speech but it was well done. I'm glad it was the best.

Many there are college kids who don't want to be reminded that there is a war vet running and his son Iraqie war vet.
They don't want to be reminded they arn't doing their part in the war so dismiss Hunter.
