Romney wins narrowly while Rudy Giuliani (a client) finishes a strong second:
Romney 21%
Giuliani 17%
Brownback 15%
Gingrich 14%
McCain 12%
On combined first and second place choices, it's a win for Rudy:
Giuliani 34%
Gingrich 30%
Romney 30%
That's not too shabby. Romney's people spent thousands of dollars getting their folks to CPAC. It seemed like every other person in line for Romney's speech yesterday had an official Mitt t-shirt on -- and he certainly was being attacked as though he was the man to beat. Even so, Rudy manages to pull off a near-win by just showing up and has the most first and second place votes.
The question of whether conservatives can support Rudy Giuliani was answered pretty decisively this week.
From Giuliani, Romney, McCain camps denounce Coulters attack on Edwards
Kevin Madden, a spokesman for Mr. Romney, said: It was an offensive remark. Governor Romney believes all people should be treated with dignity and respect.
I'm surprised that idiot Brownback did so well. Must be the conservative antiwar contingent.
Giuliani 17%
So... Hunter wasn't on the ballot?
So... Hunter wasn't on the ballot?
There is some mistake -- today, on the last day of CPAC, I watched the webcast and they said that Newt won the straw poll with 31%.
Since this wasn't a meeting of 'real conservatives', it doesn't matter that Hunter was off the radar screen... :)
Rudy PING:
On combined first and second place choices, it's a win for Rudy:
Giuliani 34%
Gingrich 30%
Romney 30%
So... Hunter wasn't on the ballot?
And they say Giuliani is too liberal.
Hmmm, an error? By Townhall, or by CPAC?
BTTT
i think they had two different straw polls, that's the confusion
I was thinking the same thing.
CPAC Straw Poll: Conservatives Favor Newt Gingrich
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1794728/posts
The unscientific poll of more than 2,500 of the group's members found that 31 percent would vote for the former House Speaker if the 2008 Republican presidential nomination were held today. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani ranked second with 25 percent of the vote.

I don't know where this notion that Romney won the straw poll is coming from.
It doesn't add up.
Newsmax had an article saying that Newt won the straw poll, I heard it with my own ears today.
Interesting. Thanks for the post.
I just checked the straw poll results on the CPAC website itself.

In first choice it's Romney, and in combo 1st and 2nd choice it's Giuliani.
