I guess you could say that Ann loves to shock us, but at this point, who’s shocked? She obviously can’t behave well enough to attend a respectable political gathering. It’s not a lack of intelligence. It’s an indifference to self-control and a preening sort of narcissism that compels her to need the spotlight, even if it’s unflattering.

(For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s audio of her calling John Edwards a “faggot” at CPAC today.)

Ann Coulter just finished her riff on Al Gore, tossed out some cute jokes ("You can understand why Hollywood is concerned about global warming. You know what heat does to plastic."), and ended with a cheap one-liner about John Edwards being a "faggot." (Paraphrasing) She said she would refrain from commenting on Edwards because "if you say faggot, you have to go to rehab."

A smattering of laughter.

Ann Coulter is speaking at CPAC as I write. As is typical, she gave a brief speech full of her usual witticisms, including a few brilliant attacks on Al Gore’s green hypocrisy. All was good. Untill the last few seconds, when she launched into a joke about John Edwards.

Here’s what she said.

“I’d say something about John Edwards, but if you say ‘faggot’ you have to go to rehab.”

I’m no fan of John Edwards, but that’s just a stupid joke. It’s over the line. The laughter it generated across the room was more than a little annoying.

Last year it was “raghead.” This year it’s calling John Edwards a “faggot.” Two years in a row, Coulter has finished up an otherwise sharp CPAC routine with an obnoxious slur that liberals will fling at conservatives for years to come.

She embarrassed us in front of the Left? She embarrassed us in front of the Press? She made us look bad in front of the party of Kennedy, Murtha, Frank, Gore, and yes, Edwards? What could anyone possibly do to look bad in front of that crowd of degenerates?

The mistake is not in insulting them, the mistake is to even take them seriously at all, when they should every one of them be laughed off the public stage and out of public life altogether.

Does anyone not notice that Edwards is a fraud and a phony? And more than a little effeminate? Laura Ingraham likes to call him a little pony. I think that nails it pretty well. Edwards is a traitor. A crime for which he should be arrested, tried and punished for.

For someone who betrays their country for personal political gain, there is no insult, no profanity no vulgarity that is to harsh or over the line.

The Democrats are perfectly correct her remark was hate speech. Hate speech directed at someone who should be hated. When conservatives speak about Murtha, Durbin, Kerry, Kennedy, Edwards, etc.; it should be with the most angry hateful language they can muster; soldiers are dying in Iraq because of the encouragement these sh-t eating gd f-ing treasonous bastards are giving to our enemies. Given the evil these Democrats are involved in, Ann Coulter's public remarks are tame. Conservatives need to stop worrying about what the media elite think, even about what moderates and independents think and start using language and characterizations which properly reflect the evil these people are up too.
