Romney, Giuliani, and McCain are taking up all the oxygen in this race. Hunter and the other social conservatives have no room for manuever.

Not true. Hunter won the AZ straw poll and was in the top 3 in SC. He's gonna give the biggies a run for the money.

Mitt is far better than Hillary. And he has a far better chance of beating her than Hunter.

If you have a Mitt pinglint...
To: George W. Bush; All
A
RedState commentator attending CPAC says this about Romney's speech:
Giluiani had leadership. Romney had conservatism. Make no mistake about that. The people who want a conservative have found their man, it seems. Mitt Romney was pitch perfect and willing to talk social issues -- something totally missing from Giuliani's speech. And people noticed.
I have to say that it was a tremendous speech. I actually could not listen to all of Rudy's, but Mitt's was great.
He poked fun at John McCain subtly. He spoke negatively about McCain-Feingold and McCain-Kennedy. He pulled at the heart strings of social conservatives, something Giuliani did not even attempt.
Giuliani was introduced by George Will, who made the point that Rudy made New York governable and Rudy is a Thatcher conservative.
Mitt was followed by Ann Coulter who put the red meat conservative seal of approval on him. It was an excellent speech that should resolve all fears conservatives have about Romney.
The race is one -- it's now between Rudy and Mitt. McCain is a non-starter.

I won't vote for him. Either way you look at it, if you see what Ann sees or what I see, the man comes out a scammer. We need a president who doesn't seek to dupe people. A man who will scam your enemy will also scam you. A scammer is a scammer. In the end, who can tell which side he is
really on?
As for Hillary: yes she is awful. No I do not agree that we should sellout on conservative issues or personal honesty just to keep Hillary out. If we do that, we don't deserve the power.

Well, I'm gonna keep on keepin on for Hunter for at least the next 6 months and see if I can't help him get some prominince. I've known for some while who he is. When I first heard his name connected to a presidential run I said I would withhold judgement until I could hear him talk. Then one day I heard him on Rush's show. He was so articulate and easy to listen to that I immediately knew he had a shot if he could somehow get before enough groups in enough venues.
Since then I have heard him on two or three other occasions. He is the first guy I have heard since Reagan that talked conservative values together with an infectious optimism that could garner 65,000,000+ votes. I think that will be needed to with the next contest.
Also, with a presidential candidate we can get excited about, I think we can show the Democrats a tsunami that will make 1994 look like a wading pool ripple.
Yes, I'm on the Hunter band wagon.

"...And you have to say about Romney, he tricked liberals into voting for him." (laughter)
Either that, or he tricked conservatives into voting for him...

It was an excellent speech that should resolve all fears conservatives have about Romney. ROFL...as if one pathetic insincere speech (which sounded as if it was written by a liberal according to what a liberal would think conservatives would want to hear) could make up for the fact that he just finished a term as America's most liberal Governor.

I agree about Romney's speech. You could see why he succeeded in, as Ann said, fooling liberals into voting for him. Very upbeat, very much on a Reagan agenda, very good at explaining his record. And, as much as anything, very optimistic like Reagan was. You could see that he could make people feel good about themselves and the country. Think of Reagan's Morning In America stuff. It was a good performance and he obviously has good writers and coaches in addition to a great native intelligence.
I listened to Giuliani. No real connection, he bored me. Not very upbeat. He spent a lot of time telling us why he doesn't agree with us and why we are probably wrong and he's right.

Either way you look at it, if you see what Ann sees or what I see, the man comes out a scammer.
I think she was saying that Romney scammed the socialists of MA and got re-elected while doing it.
One thing to remember is that Giuliani makes enemies easily. Although he had done a lot to improve New York, it is readily conceded that he was the most unpopular person in NY on 9/10. It was only his 9/11 showing that salvaged him. Rudy could easily be a one-termer.

McCain wins close SC straw poll; Giuliani and Hunter close behind
SPARTANBURG, S.C. Spartanburg County Republican officials say Senator John McCain narrowly won a presidential straw poll held in the northern part of this early voting state. McCain beat former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani by just two votes.
The Arizona senator's tally of 164 ballots was six more than California Representative Duncan Hunter. Severe weather last night caused a low turnout of about 800 people and forced the tallying to be suspended. The results left --no-- clear-cut favorite in this conservative county in South Carolina, which will hold the first Southern Republican primary on February Second.
