CPAC: Coulter on GOP candidates, leaning Romney
CSPAN video ^ | 3/2/07 | Ann Coulter

Posted on 03/02/2007 1:35:28 PM PST by George W. Bush

During her CPAC Q&A session, Ann Coulter said:

Question: "What do you think of Governor Romney's candidacy for the presidency?"

Ann's reply:

"I think he's probably our best candidate."

"I think it is fair to say, and this is coming from someone who supported Pete DuPont, Alan Keyes, Pat Buchanan, Steve Forbes so it's not like I won't go for an underdog."

"But I think we have to be serious about this. I think our choice is among Gingrich, Giuliani, McCain, and Romney.

And Giuliani is very very liberal and when this country gets to the point (and I have a love letter to him in my current book, Godless, what he did for New York was magnificent) but when this country gets to the point where both presidential candidates support abortion, I think we can hang it up as a country."

And McCain, I think has some problems because everyone who supports McCain would have to switch party registrations to vote for him."

"I love Gingrich, I think he's brilliant, he was crucial, the man for his time. We don't even know if he's running for president but assuming he is, I kinda think his time has passed and, I don't know, it could come back again, like Eighties music, but I think his time was over..."

"...And you have to say about Romney, he tricked liberals into voting for him." (laughter)

"I like a guy who hoodwinks liberals so easily. And also the one thing I have a very soft spot for is that I love Mormons and the reason I love Mormons (among other things) is that...you may have forgotten this...But Bill Clinton in Utah in 1992 came in third (in Utah). Now that's a fine state."

Responding to another question about why she has not herself run for office, Ann responded:

"You know, people keep saying, criticizing some of our presidential candidates, saying 'well, they're not Reagan, they're not Reagan.'"

"A Reagan comes around once every hundred years so don't keep comparing everyone to Reagan. It's a very tough job to run for president."

"I was just saying, the only thing I don't understand about Romney is why he wants to run for president. He has a great life, he's rich, he has a beautiful family...why ruin it by running for president?"

"But hopefully, he won't think of that."

Hunter has been running ads in SC for about 45 days pushing border enforcement and fair trade.

He has more name recognition here than probably anywhere except his home state.

Ann supported Pat Buchanan? Must have been the 92 primaries...

I have Buchanan for President bumper stickers from then. After seeing what he's turned in to in recent years, I don't let anybody see them.

Well, I'm quite sure she will be ecstatic when Hunter replaces McCain in the big 3

Frankly I liked Guiliani's Speech at CPAC better than Romneys (but even so I won't be supporting either in the republican primary). I don't trust Mitt (something about him), and Guliani, he's honest, America's mayor, but too liberal for me!!

I heard her tell Cavuto, I think it was, that Hunter is 'magnificent.' She'll be on board.

It's called Tongue in cheek. Get to know Ann, she'll grow on ya.

Some people here have been long time Ann haters. I always find her exceedingly delightful. Perhaps some just have no sense of humor. I can't think of anyone I appreciate for their defense of Christians more than Ann Coulter. All I see in her is character and loyalty -- oh, and a grand sense of humor. I don't know. I guess I have always enjoyed that northeastern attitude too. LOL! She knows how to put up a defense better than anyone.

Wow, a whole 474 people in a single county! It is actually disappointing because they were calling for 1500 to 2000 people to vote.

According to Captain's Quarters Blog here - http://www.captainsquartersblog.com/mt/

Ann said - "I'd say something about John Edwards, but if you use the word 'faggot', you have to go to rehab."

Well, you can't get `em all right, Ann. Romney is simply too eager to flip-flop. I can't vote for a man I don't trust to stay on my side of the fence.

Ann needs to eat some steak and cake. She looked like Calista whatever-heart on the 1/2 hour news hour.

She is very thing but she always looks healthy to me.
