In what may or may not be surprising to opponents of the ACLU, the former president of the Virginia ACLU chapter has been arrested for allegedly possessing child pornography.
The complaint states that Charles Rust-Tierney "has subscribed to multiple child pornography web sites over a period of years." Rather violent and brutal Web sites if the complaint is true. It also alleges Rust-Tierney admitted to the lawbreaking.
Ironically, the former coach of various youth athletic teams argued in the past against restricting Internet access in public libraries in Virginia. He wrote, "Recognizing that individuals will continue to behave responsibly and appropriately while in the library, the default should be maximum, unrestricted access to the valuable resources of the Internet."
Of course.
Society doesnt have to make life, or Internet access, easier for pornographers or anyone else who would exploit and harm other human beings.
Thats something the ACLU has never understood.
The lack of media attention this extremely disurbing story has been getting is a travesty. If it doesn't prove media bias, nothing does.
The silence by the old media is espically deafing.
If one of us did this...there would a breaking news story every ten minutes.
That word does not belong where it is.
I am still waiting for CNN to have breaking news of Al Gore's "footprint" and I just know this story will be right behind it....
O'Reilly has covered it numorous times and he has covered the MSM silence on it.
About as much responsibility as any member of the ACLU has ever shown.
There appears to be a gap in the thinking of the members of the ACLU. Destroy the rule of law, through the misuse of its application. Sure, the voice of the weak and downtrodden should still be heard before the court. But this is not what they do. They are not interested in the least in advancing the wise application of law. They simply are out to destroy ALL legal precedent, to establish a culture of presenting all civil order as being oppression.
There is little virtue in protecting the most predatory and malevolent sociopaths in our society, as if they were fully functioning members of the human race. They are not. Perhaps they cannot control what they do. But they are still not fit to be out among the general population, nor is there any way to make them functional members.
I'm shocked. No really, I am shocked!
I am sure the ACLU has many other skeletons in the closets. This one just happened to fall out.
Rochester, NY
A local TV station went under cover and exposed that graphic pornography is being accessed in plain sight of young children at the public library, main branch.
After the segment ran on our local channel, the County Executive, Maggie Brooks, told the library to either put filters on their computers or face the withdrawal of funds. The ACLU came out in minutes with their lawsuit threats against the COunty of Monroe and Maggie Brooks. The very next day I ran across the ACLU pedifile story on-line.
These stories dont make our news outlets because they are all Democrat, liberal and love the ACLU and their ilke.
I sent the article to the County Executives e-mail but dont know if it will be forwarded to her. I also posted it in the Democrat & Chronicle forum, but most posters are busy trying to justify the porn access or hate Ms Brooks and nothing she does is right in their eyes. (Sort of the Hate Bush syndrome on a local level).

and the old media pushing this back into the closet.
The mediots are usually quiet when a pervert from one of their favs is accused of a terrible crime.
Most of them know that they are only a heart beat or a personality clash from being the next non headline.
Think about the children! Jesus said that for those who harm children, it would be better for them to be drown in the sea with a mill stone hung around their necks (Matthew 18:6)!
I wonder, is that why the ACLU hates the Bible so much?

Thanks.
Are any of the local media outlets covering this story ?
We have not even seen his picture ?
No, nothing at all.
I will send it out to my media contacts and see if they do anything. I just wouldn't hold my breath.
Have you seen this ?

A former American Civil Liberties Union executive, who once argued that Internet filters in libraries that limited childrens access to pornography would interfere with their ability to learn and communicate, is facing a federal court hearing today on charges he possessed child pornography.
Donna Rice Hughes, president of Enough is Enough, a website dedicated to protecting children from the dangers on the Internet, had worked on CIPA, and then served as an expert witness for the defendant when Tierney and the ACLU sued over the filters.
That Mr. Rust-Tierney, a leading proponent of unrestricted access to the Internet, has now been arrested for receiving and possessing graphic child pornography should serve as testimony to the injudicious and baleful outgrowth of the legal challenges launched by the ACLU questioning the constitutionality of important legislation that protects children from Internet exploitation and content harmful to minors, the organization said in a statement released by Enough is Enough spokeswoman Cris Clapp.
