That's how I feel too, Arizona.

I used to love a calm discussion on the Mars landings, or the threads on our troops progress and heroic actions. They have pretty much disappeared on this forum. It's going down hill like a Semi load of Hogs with no brakes.

It's sad. But as long as ideological purity trumps character - nasty, vitriolic attacks are going to be allowed here - and good, decent, kind and intelligent people will be pushed away.

I had a deferment for 18 months, but later volunteered for the draft. (There were real advantages in doing this as opposed to a full enlistment)

I don't regret either choice.

That's fine, but your post was an argument with EV that somehow he wasn't doing anything for aborted babies and that it didn't really matter about Rudy.

You are quite correct about making choices. In the end I might choose someone who was somewhat pro-choice if they were right about every other issue (although to be honest I have a hard time with pro-choicers because I see it as a basic character flaw not to recognise the continuity of life and at least see that once a baby is viable it isn't something to be owned and discarded). But the only thing I see Rudy having the lead on right now is the lead.

MEaning that other than him "looking electable", I don't see what he has that others don't have. Several others speak as well as him, are as smart as he is, have the executive experience he has, and are more conservative. Others are much better on issues, or have a much more moral personal life which is important.

If the only thing that makes him the best is that he is "electable", I'd rather spend the next year trying to make a better candidate "electable" than support Gulliani.

If he wins the nomination, I'll be there to get him elected, but grudgingly because I fear he will make it hard to get conservatives elected down-ticket, which is very important.

It's just strange to see a person who seemed supportive of George Allen for President now supporting Rudy Gulliani, who makes John Warner look like, well, Duncan Hunter.

If I had to do it all over again I would have joined the civil service. I just never thought I could get into the service with two disabilities.

The particular ping in THIS forum was based on a post that mentioned that the "owner" of the forum said or did something.

You'd have more credibility in your whine if you hadn't come on the thread pulling stuff off another website that calls conservatism the Taliban.

I am still looking for it - I read a lot of threads yesterday, didn't post in many of them, but it basically derided those who thought abortion and guns were the important issues.

I realize that. Did you miss the part of my comments that talked specifically about freepers who ping JR because they think we shouldn't be supporting Rudy and they want it to stop?

I'm told that Duncan did a very good job, and was very warmly received.

Ditto. I've never seen so many whiners on FR before.

And they're not females either, which makes it all the more hilarious and pathetic. That seems to be a sexist remark :-)

Well, first you have to realize that there's no rational arguing with him.

But, that argument is largely in response to my (and all Rudy supporters) being referred to as "abortionists," "baby killers" etc.

Because, that's a crock.

If you don't like your image, then change it. Try being decent towards people for a change.

"If a had a buck for every time I've seen the Rooty Rooters holding donations over Jim's head, I could at least buy a nice steak dinner. With a good bottle of wine." If i had a buck for every outrageous LIE, or distortion you posted I could retire and fund the next presidential election.

Someone noting the fall off in traffic here is NOT holding anything over Jim's head. And if truth be known those who do not define themselves by HATE fund this place more than the haters in any case.

Most of those you spend your days attacking are long time contributors and conservative activists.
