...While many Democratic movers and shakers in the film industry felt they owed Clinton their loyalty, there was a gnawing feeling that it would be no simple task to get one of the most polarising political figures of our times back into the White House.
....Of more concern for Clinton's campaign, her prospects against the likely Republican opponents have grown bleak. Less than a month ago, she was running in a virtual dead heat with the leading Republican, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, who has yet to declare his candidacy. The Rasmussen and Zogby polls taken last weekend have Giuliani ahead by as much as nine percentage points.
.... Since 1989, Hollywood has given more than $US100million ($127 million) to Democrats for federal campaigns alone; this is on par with what the oil and gas industry has raised for Republicans in that time.
Some Obama supporters have noted that Clinton's fall in the polls coincided with last week's slanging match instigated by Hollywood billionaire David Geffen, a former Clinton confidant who is now backing Obama. Geffen, who is openly gay and a contentious figure himself, was scathing in his criticism of the Clintons, questioning Bill Clinton's moral compass and saying he believes the Republicans see Hillary Clinton as the easiest candidate to defeat.
...Clinton's campaign was outraged that Obama got in first - though Clinton will raise at least that much at a fundraiser next month - and word around town is that her supporters are being told that there will be no tolerance for spreading the wealth to other Democratic candidates. The Hollywood swells must ahve been stocking up on garlic.
I don't know why everyone is so upset by who hollywood backs. If they were that powerful, I doubt Mr. Bush would be president.
I think it's high time we do away with patronage Ambassadorships.
Looking more like Shelley Winters every day. She's running to catch up to Helen Thomas.
We're surrounded by buffoons.
No one trusts Hitlery. She will use and abuse anyone she can. A lot of people will distance themselves from her as this campaign goes on.
Has that Baldwin brother left the country yet?
Somebody with more editing skills than I needs to do a spoof of Hillary from the Faith Hill meltdown video...
What irony! Hillary! is finding out what generations of Hollywood actors and actresses have found out: You have a limited shelf-life. To the Tinseltown set, she's yesterday's news.
Hollywood probably can't pick the President, but they can sure shootin' pick the Democrat(ic) nominee.
I thought Wolfson of the Clinton camp instigated the slanging.
The only thing going on right now is stupid polls, and in order for Hillary! to win, she has to maintain her front-runner status. A sense of inevitability is her only strength. Once that is gone, she does not have the talent or the personal appeal to win the voters back.
I am sensing we might have a third party challenge this election.
Hillary and McPain, after plummeting in the polls sufficiently, may end up as candidates on the EGO party ticket.
