First some facts.
We are currently 613 days from electing our next President of the United States, around 300 days until the Primary season starts and both Parties select their candidates.
For the first time since 1952, a sitting President or Vice President will not be running as a candidate. This leaves both fields wide open and in a media driven world unimaginable in 1952 means that we will have unprecedented campaign coverage of not one, but two hard fought nomination processes.
On Freerepublic there is a lot of good information scattered through an immense amount of thunder and fury. Now thunder and fury can be useful, but there are bolts of lightning that are dangerous (albeit colorful at times) and can seriously injure those thrown into the arena.
I would respectfully ask that we keep the thunder and fury to a more managable level, at least until the Primary season, so that the good information can be easier to find, and also so we don't end up damaging our Primary candidates to the point that they will be lame ducks for the General election.
Let the Democrats use their resources to rip into the Republicans, and let us choose soberly and reasonably who we wish to represent the Republican party in 2008.
Reagan said it is the 11th Commandment "Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican"
Let's try to remember that as we promote our own candidates over the next several months.
Does that mean that we cannot criticize Rudy's policies on abortion, gay rights and gun control?
No, it means that name calling and trashing supporters is out of bounds. Legitimate political discourse can be rough, but saying "If you support Rudy, you hate America!" is beyond a political argument.
Can we call him a pro-abortion, pro-gay rights gun grabber?
Beaware of wolves in sheep clothing.
Sure. That's an accurate reflection of his stated position on those areas.
Hear! Hear! Well said.
Rudy hasn't lived by the 11th Commandment. He shouldn't expect his critics to either.
YOU ARE CORRECT, THANKS FOR POST!!
I didn't say treat him with kid gloves. I didn't say that he had followed the 11th commandment. But I think Freepers are better than that.
We can be harsh and critical, without stepping over the line to bashing and wounding. Why give Democrats ammo to use against us, and why burn bridges with each other with scandelous name calling and overtly hateful speech to each other?
Sending a wounded candidate to the General election is not wise.
...as long as we become RudyBots?
It would be nice, and we might actually get something accomplished.
Neither is sending someone from the far left of the party.
Kind of reflective of what we were just talking about isnt it.
