NEW YORK CITY -- More rats -- now a different restaurant. This time an au bon pain on third avenue where WNBC recorded these two rats inside the popular bakery just last night.

"I've eaten here before waiting for the bus and now I will never go in there again," said a former customer.

It's the second restaurant to draw attention since the New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene closed this rat-infested KFC-Taco Bell in Greenwich Village. That restaurant actually passed inspection the day before the rats were discovered but now.

"So are there any other possibilities other than incompetence, sloppiness and corruption? I think that about covers it," said Thomas Frieden, New York City Health Commissioner.

Same here this is one of the many reasons why we rarely eat out anymore. Besides my hubby says he prefers my home cooked meals. Our idea of eating out is now eating at a relative's house.

"So are there any other possibilities other than incompetence, sloppiness and corruption? I think that about covers it," said Thomas Frieden, New York City Health Commissioner.

It's actually rather refreshing to hear a bureaucrat not make excuses for the corruption in his department.

Now all he needs to do is root it out.
