With 71 of 75 precincts reporting, Giuliani had garnered 123 votes. California Rep. Duncan Hunter was running in second place, with 110 votes, and Arizona Sen. John McCain at 86 votes, according to county GOP officials.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney had 59 votes, Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback had 68 votes and Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee rounded out the front-runners, with 18 votes.

Romney's camp just lied and said that Rudy was pro gay marriage but then couldn't back it up. Both camps have responded to Romney's charge.

I think you are right. I think the middle will be the power player this time around. Look to what the moderates and independents are thinking.
I am very familiar with Greenville and adjacent counties thru my genealogy work on my brother's late wife's family. Her grandparents were from Pickens County.
I'm undecided, so I don't have a horse in the race, but this view never ceases to baffle me. Why in God's name could you justify voting for Rudy, but not McCain? Rudy has virtually every problem McCain has, plus more.
I can't help but think these sorts of statements are an emotional reaction more then a logical one.
I saw that. It's rather telling that Romney has gone so negative this early. And those who also despise Romney here will cheer him on as he tries to trash Guiliani.
Wow and all we've been told is how Rudy would bomb in SC.
He is not a very inspiring candidate, but if he happens to win the nomination I will vote for him. But without enthusiasm.
Considering the threats to stay home last November that social conservatives made on this forum alone, why in the world would Republicans of any stripe depend on them for the vote?
After the November debacle, the handwriting was on the wall that the GOP was moving to the middle. And as long as that middle includes strong national defense and fiscal conservatism, a lot of us won't be displeased by that.

Exactly. They are trying to make up for their small numbers by the shrillness and repetitiousness of their posts.
So don't support Rudy. It's a free country.
I had rather liked Romney; he wasn't my first choice but he was okay. I've lowered my opinion of him and, as you said, going negative this far out is not a good sign.
A society in which winning political power entitles you to punish your political opponents for treason is Hell on earth, as many recent and remote examples show. That's why the Constitution defines treason, taking that act of legislation out of the hands of Congress.
And the anti-Rudy folk who are so comfortable with the accusation reveal their goals for when they are in power - which is why they won't ever get there.
From about here on this thread
Lots of good resaonable posts there.
Marriage, civil unions, capture the name game. The name game is important, because about half of GOP voters are in favor of civil unions, and only about 20% in favor of gay marriage. So of course, the currently rather hapless Romney, is going to going to into the capture the name game. One problem he will have, is that he has played on the both teams, first on one, and then the other, and then back again, depending on how the polls looked in where he was.
It's rather telling that Romney has gone so negative this early.

I agree, Mitt does so at his own peril..
Yes! That's the BIG news of the night. Rudy was supposed to lose big in SC - *true* conservatives would never support him etc etc . Rudy won. That's really big news!

Hear, hear!
Jim Noble made a great post and a quick read of the posts after that revealed some good posts as well but also some of the same 6-8 names we see on all the threads.
