I can't answer to the "why" as far as Giuliani picking Republican...I couldn't find any quotes one way or the other so that is just speculation. It is true, however, that Dems in NYC always have more candidates in primaries and have a run-off system to strengthen their candidates before the General election.
According to Answers.com, Giuliani lost in 1989 as the Republican/Liberal/Independent candidate. He won in 1993 as the Republican/Liberal candidate and he won in 1997 as the Republican candidate. Apparently, the less Fusion the better as he went along...unusual in NYC I would say..
Meeting went well. Consensus was we prefer "Rudy-Tooters"

Actually, I was just going by the video.
"Rudy said this, that means he really is a Democrat. He's sunk." were the comments made by posters.
I just gave some context, which totally disproves those kinds of comments. Now, if you want to move the goalposts and speculate on WHY he ran as a Republican, that's a whole different subject...
Have any sourcing on this video yet? Dates or anything? Not that I doubt a lot of his points are his, but the first one I checked was bogus.

The Rudy supporters are conspicuously absent. And I hope that every pro-rudy thread they start, someone will toss all this crap about rudy right in their faces.
They need to come right in the open and admit they are liberals, save them a lot less hassle trying to deny it.

They're busy crafting their "It was taken out of context, cut and paste, not entiely factually accurate" response.
Meanwhile, their accomplices in the media will ignore it.
For now.

Just now checking in to this thread, Amigo....if it comes down to Rudy or McCain (which it will), who the hell will you support? Put me in the Giuliani spot.....Rudy's at least lucid. McCain is far removed from sanity.
We've got a $hitty pot to pull from for this cycle, I'm afraid - but I'll always opt away from instability.
Rudy and McClain are both vain egomaniacs...this really sucks. Newt is, of course, unelectable, and the other names in the mix are just thin clouds on the horizon.

It just bothers me that they think abortion and gun control (and as I found out today, McCain-Feingold) are irrelevant issues. They should be pro-war Democrats.

Conservative Values:Meet The Press: Tim Russert: "Whether it's gays in the military, gun control, campaign finance, late term abortion - you and Hillary Clinton are in sync on those issues."
Rudy Giuliani: "Well then maybe the other side should stop the 'He's part of the vast right wing conspiracy'."
End of story.
The only thing left to add to that is: "Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."
I jusr felt like saying that. It's as natural as saying that Rudy is a LIB.

Really, this is remarkable.
Giuliani has gotten the equivalent of millions of dollars in free air time courtesy of his liberal friends in the main stream media. For Duncan Hunter to come from nowhere and get this close on the strength of the internet and word of mouth is remarkable.
It is a very dire development for Rudy, who will be toast after one debate.
