In comment #133, I was quoting FReeper taxed2death. In my opinion, he is wrong. I think Rudy is very likely to get the nomination. I also think that will mean the end of the GOP coalition, though I am not sure where the Reagan Democrat/social conservatives are going to end up.
I would never have believed that a month ago, but once it became clear that many on FreeRepublic (I think maybe most on the forum) were at least OK with a Rudy nomination--and were ready to toss the social conservatives, including the forum's OWNER--right out of their Party, then I figured it might well happen, and I have gotten used to the idea.
I haven't done anything yet about finding a political home, but I am open to ideas.

HE WAS A SUPPORTER OF MCCAIN/FEINGOLD! That is just downright despicable in my book. <<
I can't figure out why so many McCain bashers on FR rant that he's too liberal because of McCain/Feingold, then they turn around and say they'd vote for Giuliani. Rudy holds the SAME "liberal" positions that McCain does, and he's a lot further LEFT than McCain on the REST of the issues!

Have you emailed information to every conservative you know? I have.
No, because I do not think he is qualified to be President. I don't want legislators in the White House.

Joe Lieberman also did a good job supporting Bush on the WOT - but it doesn't mean I would want him to be my President! He is too liberal. Interesting you bring up Leiberman. I'm assuming the GOP senate candidate who ran against him was more conservative, yet many GOP pundits pushed for Leiberman's reelection.

Hey, did you see the FR poll of Hunter vs. Rudy? (And the latest one of Gingrich v. Rudy?) Rudy is getting creamed. Don't give up hope. You're not in the minority here, regardless of what some might want you to think. The Rudy supporters are just so vocal is all.

People do not think McCain is liberal because of McCain/Feingold, they think he is an idiot because of it.

Delphinium has a great example of how these kinds of polls and MSM trashing of socon candidates mean absolutely nothing when the time comes to push the lever. If anything, the negative media attention serves our purposes better when we have a good socon candidate. The media would turn on Rudy so fast it would make a galaxy spin.

Bill Sali won and he was very unashamedly pro-life, less government, less spending, no on taxes, free interprise , no homosexual marriage etc.. and support for the Iraq war securing our borders...all of Jims suggestions.
The media trashed him, the Rinos trashed him even in the general, The polls that the media reported had him so low it looked impossible.
He won big! They were reporting total lying polls to affect the election.

You guys are just a bunch of Rudy haters who love nothing more than bashing this genuine conservative. This is a hatchet job, and anyone who doesn't support Rudy is a traitor, because he, and ONLY he can win the WOT. Besides that, that YouTube is owned by google and I suspect a right wing, ah...er..., no, I mean a left wing conspiracy against him. And remember, Rudy has to say things to appease the MSM to win, after he wins he gonna be the most conservative president that was ever elected. This is his stragerty, trust me on this. Rudy is our man, let's all stick together for the sake of winning the election!! /S

Don't give up just yet.
There's plenty of time, and as the field thins, a real conservative will emerge that we can be proud to rally around!
Hang in there! Better days are coming!

If I were to make the Rudy case- and this youtube video is caught in my throat like a big hunk of rotting meat - then I would quote this:
http://www.nypost.com/seven/03012007/news/nationalnews/newt_rips_nasty_hill_nationalnews_maggie_haberman.htm
Gingrich said the GOP needs to nominate a Ronald Reagan-type candidate and added, "I think it's not an accident that Giuliani is running as well as he is in the polls."
Gingrich called New York's evolution under Giuliani "a tremendous story . . . It's a different city."
- end quote -
This is Newt Gingrich we're talking about. Probably the greatest intellectual heavyweight in the Conservative movement. And he obviously loves Rudy. I can not think that if Rudy were as liberal as this selection of quotes from the video would indicate, that a man like Gingrich could say that. I'm not saying we should support Rudy. I'm saying that when Gingrich supports the guy it's not as clear-cut a situation as this video would suggest.

Representative is a far cry from Chief Executive of a State as large as California or Texas. It is not about experience in Washington, it is experience being a CEO.
