Excellent point.
In all honesty, I'm probably overreacting just a little bit...but I'm noticing that Giuliani has a record of attacking the first amendment (his support of McCain/Feingold) combined with his pro-gun control stance. Isn't this something that should be catching our attention?

You know... For people who accuse the anti-Rudy tribe of being a bunch of religious wackos, they sure do have a lot of "faith" that he's going to turn out to be the savior of America.

And I don't see anyone else who can beat her among our choices.
There is absolutely no reason to panic or even think you have to pick a candidate now. Let's see how the field looks in December - it will be different than now.

"What about your namesake?"
Recent polls have shown more people view Romney negatively than positively. In some polls he's below 5%. I'm not in this to run a decent candidate who loses to Hillary.

Duncan Hunter is the ideal choice. I'm really pulling for him. BUT...the million dollar question is: Can he do it? Could he make it all the way past the primaries and beat Hillary/Obama and their star power? I'd love to think so but my instincts are telling me to be realistic.

Do you think Hunter would ever have a shot at winning CA in the general? As in more of a chance than Bush had...
***A little bit better. Duncan is tapping into a vein that even the republican party is barely aware of with the immigration and fair trade combination. And Hunter is from California, so he might have a slight advantage compared to Bush.

I was thinking about that the other day. Take Bush's numbers in 2004 in CA, add 3% for the "native son" factor and about 4% for his immigration stance and maybe another 2% for his stance on fair trade...who knows?

(Rudy Giuliani as the Republican nominee is like Martin Luther being Pope.)
To: Labyrinthos
Wrong answer. You have it backwards.
In an overwhelmingly Democratic city like New York, a Democratic candidate actually has a more difficult hill to climb to win the mayoral election -- because he/she first has to get through a hotly-contested primary fight involving as many as 5 or 6 opponents.
An ambitious Democrat who wants to be mayor of New York City is best served by running as a Republican -- just like Michael Bloomberg did in 2001. And I'm getting more convinced by the day that this is exactly what Rudy Giuliani did back then -- which is one more reason why he should never be trusted as the GOP nominee.

Why, no. Except for the part where he declares himself an enemy of the two most fundamental liberties guaranteed by the Constitution.

"There is absolutely no reason to panic or even think you have to pick a candidate now.
No need to panic or even pick a candidate now, but it IS imperative to be able to look and see that a certain candidate is even POTENTIALLY capable of beating Hillary. The only "white knight" who might come in unexpectedly is Jeb Bush, and there is no way another Bush is going to be elected right now.
I can go down the list of candidates other than Rudy and - except for the unstable nut McCain - none of them seems capable of beating Hillary. I thought Romney was capable of doing so, but when a candidate is still below 5% in most polls there is a huge problem.
I can certainly see the Rudy bashers' point. I actually agree with a lot of what they say. But I have this mental image that haunts my dreams. It is of a night in November, 2008 when Hillary is at a podium with a big stupid grin on her face.
