Speaker’s in fashion among young women [Barf Alert!]
The Columbus Dispatch ^ | 2/27/07 | Valerie Sullivan

WASHINGTON — For a new generation of girls, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is something of a modern-day Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Yet, unlike the stylish, idolized wife of President John F. Kennedy who became a fashion and cultural icon to millions of American women of that era, Pelosi is a glamorous role model based on her own accomplishments, say pop-culture experts, fellow female lawmakers and several young women interviewed recently.

"No longer are women solely the backbone; we’re the candidate," said Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, D-Cleveland.

The important message for young women to take from Pelosi’s success, said Rep. Deborah Pryce, R-Upper Arlington, "is that glass ceilings in politics are largely an anachronism now."

In Pelosi, young women have found a powerful yet fashionable female role model, said Julia Pflaum, an Ohio University senior and president of the student club Fashion Associates.

"She is kind of breaking down barriers, in the sense that you can dress nicely but also have something to say, and I think a lot of women look up to that and respect that," said Pflaum, of Hudson, Ohio.

"Nancy Pelosi is very much interested in fashion, but ... she knows that her true impact on the world is in politics and providing a good role model as a powerful and successful woman."

Pelosi’s allure as a role model for young women underscores the ever-changing ideal for women, said Susan Schulz, editor-in-chief of CosmoGIRL magazine.

The left does this a lot. They think that speaking their delusions aloud makes them so.

Oh, this poor kid. She sounds like she's still playing with Business Casual Barbie.

GAWK....Pelosi wouldn't have been worthy of ironing Jackie's stockings (which she reportedly had done).

You know why she's always blinking her eyes at 90 miles an hour? She gets shot up with all that Botox and it's tightened up her face so much, it draws her eyes shut. She blinks so fast to be able to see, between blinks.

What a slap in the face to Jackie Kennedy Onassis. Oh yeah, I've heard some vicious gossip about her moral qualities, but in public she knew her role...just like another great first Lady, Laura Bush.

Nancy Pelosi shattered the glass ceiling with an AK-47, or what ever her "family" used to control their territory.

Total barf alert!

Oh, I'm sure for SOME young ladies, Pelosi is the greatest. Of course those same young women thought X42 was a great leader and think Her Heinous should be President.

Fortunately, it's not ALL young women who feel that way.

BTW, exactly what DID Ms. Pelosi do before being elected to Congress? Was she a lawyer in a big firm in San Francisco? I know her father was Mayor of Baltimore, so she already had a leg up on politics being in that family, and I think she married well, but what has she done all on her own?

As absolutely idiotic as this sounds, I heard some guy being interviewed on Fox News the day Anna Nicole Smith died and he proclaimed, "Anna Nicole is our Lady Di!"

Pray tell, how is Pelosi in anyway a better fit for this title than Condoleeza Rice?

Condi isn't a good role model. She refuses to act "black" - she sold out to whitey.

Her appearance, brilliant reds and 12 miles of scarfs always reminds me of the sad, old, rich lady trying to recapture her youth....There's no beauty there, just pity.

Between that and her constant squirming in her seat Giddy, over her power, she comes off as pathetic.

Its way to early for this one. Personally I hope that none of my sons who are still single bring home a girl who is like San Fran Nan or looks anything like her.... God forbid... The thought is disgusting. She is no role model IMHO. Nor does she compare with Jackie O. I don't think Pelosi has any taste whatsoever....Just the taste for whatever power she can grab.
