CPAC-2007 is off to a great start! Tony Snow, David Keene, and a host of notable conservative policy masters greeted us earlybirds warmly.
This CPAC promises to be even better than ever.
It made all the news that McCain dissed CPAC. Then he tried to reserve a room for a private reception, but was blocked out because he waited too long. Call it the clash of the egos.
Indeed--that evening will live in infamy...
Flyer that can be handed out is here.
I just had a chance to meet Ed Morrissey of Captain's Quarters, and we chatted a bit about the Kerry Wars...
"Call it the clash of the egos."
No, call it...
The Manchurian Hospitality Suite!
So po'd to miss it this year! Next year I am signing up early and come h or h water I will be there! Rudy Friday at noon, I've heard. Have to get myself near a CPAN TV to watch this one. Have a great time!
Just got back from CPAC day 1. I took off a little early because it's going to be a big day tomorrow. It's clear that there is no love at all for Rudy and McCain. I met 1 McCain supporter and couldn't find anyone that was for Rudy although I did see an older woman sporting a Rudy 2008 hat.
Romney has people EVERYWHERE. He must have hundreds of volunteers in there handing out stickers and trying to get people to vote for him in the straw poll. He's got a good overall buzz on the floor and there are tons of students wearing Mitt stickers. He's got a good chance to make an impact with his speech and reception tomorrow. Brownback also has a sizeable presence and his volunteers are very vocal, they are all telling anyone that walks by to vote for a "principled conservative". Later in the afternoon, a small but vocal Tancredo group got up and running in the exhibit area and the hallways and were having some spirited discussions with people. There was also a small Jim Gilmore contengent. No presence at all from the other candidates although it should be noted that if you're still in the exploratory phase you really can't do the campaigning that the full-fledged candidates are doing.
I enjoyed the speakers that I got to see today. Jim Demint gave the opening keynote speech and he hit all the conservative talking points, I think people were all still waking up though. The panel with Ken Blackwell, Richard Viguerie, and Phyllis Schlafly was a fun discussion and Phyllis was of course great. Kay Bailey Hutchison and a libertarian from the Cato Institute talked about limiting government and everything was going good until Sen. Hutchison started defending earmarks, which I don't think went over very well. Rep. Jeb Hensarling was awesome and he is a rising star in this party. He is a a true principled conservative and he has the charisma and presence to back it up. Mitch McConnell got the best reception of the day and he was on point. He threatned to essentially fillibuster everything that the Democrats pass out of the House when it gets to the Senate. Great stuff and he is turning out to be a wonderful leader thus far. Tony Snow was also great and of course he dropped a few good lines about Kerry and some other friends of the White House. He gave what he called a pep talk to conservatives and it was a good speech.
I skipped out on Elanie Chao and Arlen Specter to grab a bite at the irish pub where I met a really cool guy named Jon Scott who ran against Patrick Kennedy last election. I shared a few beers with him and he's a really down to earth guy who would undoubtably have been a 1000x upgrade over Kennedy. His associate also paid my tab which was extra nice.
Can't wait for tomorrow, it should be interesting with six of the 2008 candidates giving speeches. I also have to say on a personal note that I think the conservative movement is in good shape because there are tons of good looking girls at this event. I am definitely going to have to find out where the party is after tomorrow's festivities.

Saw it. Shook my head. Unbelievable!
It looks like C-Span isn't carrying his speech. I will be very disappointed if that is the case.
I am so sorry to hear you didn't make it this year! John Bolton gave a fiery speech during the banquet tonight. Cheney was in fine form. Photos to follow shortly.
Wish I could be there. My husband is there, though. I am going to have a baby next Tuesday and am in the "Dear God in heaven I am uncomfortable" stage of pregnancy. Walking the halls at CPAC just was not a viable option this year.....
Looks like a terrific lineup though.
Hi IT,
That's very cool.
