Kerry grills nominee over Swift boat By SAM HANANEL, Associated Press Writer 22 minutes ago

A Senate hearing that began with glowing tributes to a St. Louis businessman and his qualifications to become ambassador to Belgium turned bitterly divisive Tuesday after he was criticized for supporting a controversial conservative group.

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., grilled nominee Sam Fox about why he donated $50,000 to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth during the 2004 presidential race. The group of Vietnam veterans made unsubstantiated allegations against Kerry — then the Democratic presidential nominee — and charged that Kerry did not deserve the medals he won in the Vietnam War.

"Might I ask you what your opinion is with respect to the state of American politics as regards the politics of personal destruction?" Kerry asked near the end of the hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Fox, one of the nation's most generous contributors to Republican candidates and causes, said he shared Kerry's concerns that politics "has become mean and destructive."

Fox said he didn't recall who asked him to give to the group and blamed partisans on both sides for contributing to so-called 527 groups that are not subject to conventional campaign finance rules.

"So is that your judgment that you would bring to the ambassadorship, that two wrongs make a right?" Kerry asked.

"I did it because politically it's necessary if the other side's doing it," Fox said.

The group of Vietnam veterans made unsubstantiated allegations against Kerry

Why didn't they just call them liars? Seemingly, to be "substantiated" a Democrat must say it. I would really like to dump a pint of Georgia chiggers in Long John's underwear drawer.

I went to a prep school filled with guys like kerry. They think they';re entitled to power. All of them were lame-brains! They were raised to feel this way, and they actually weren't smart enough to even think about it. It was theirs by entitlement. They were dummies. Incapable of real consideration of their position. What a sad state of affairs!

Not only did I buy the book by the Swift Boat Veterans, but I read it! The arguments are compelling; the evidence is overwheming. Kerry clearly has a mental disorder as evidenced by the fact that he would challenge the truth again. Who is he? Don Quixote? a fool calling incoming onto himself? ...more evidence that the people of the Great State of Massachusetts are very strange to elect such a numbskull to the Senate!

I didn't even know that hearings were required for ambassador to Belgium. Talk about a waste of money...he'll be there less than two years!

Still, had Dubya called me, I would've accepted the offer.

Sign the SF180, Senator Kerry, then we'll know what allegations were "unsubstantiated" and which were not...

"Might I ask you what your opinion is with respect to the state of American politics as regards the politics of personal destruction?" Kerry asked

Response:

Well, that practice sure kept Bill Clinton in office didn't it Mr. Kerry?

"group of Vietnam veterans made unsubstantiated allegations against Kerry "

They were very well documented allegations.

And Bush had good documentation of WMD, which has been turned into a lie that says there were no WMD found.

flip flop flip flop

Hanoi Jane and I know how to demoralize US Troops serving today!

We hate US Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We hate all US Troops!

We lie about them in 2004 the same as we did in the 60's and 70's!

How did Kerry know he contributed $50,000? Every allegation the MSM investigated was proven untrue? How many were there? I remember the attorney in Washington state who got in trouble for signing an affidavit as a witness, wonder what became of him? Also I remember the schematic in one of the Washington papers of the incident at the weir, some backpeddling by a couple high-up's, but I never was clear on just what was untrue. Much of it seemed to go into limbo since it relied on memories from 30 years ago and he said she said.

But he did not spend Christmas in Cambodia when Nixon was president. The MSM downplayed that.

No, they were substantiated. It was Kerry's denials that were unsubstantiated. Ya see, if he would sign his SF-180 . . . . . . .
