From the ANSWER website regarding a permit needed for their March 17 2007 anti-war demonstration/march from the Vietnam Memorial (Constitution Gardens)to the Pentagon:
"The State of Virginia Department of Transportation finally met with us last Thursday afternoon, February 22. At that meeting they demanded that we obtain one million dollars in insurance, hire an engineering firm to determine their traffic and road closure plan, and agree to pay a user fee of thousands and possibly tens of thousands of dollars for before we will be given a permit to march on Route 27 on the way to the Pentagon. We are talking about a stretch of highway under Virginias jurisdiction that is about 100 yards long. . . . . We need everyones help in two areas:
One thing you can do is to provide political support for the public Free Speech campaign. We are mounting a large scale legal and political effort to secure our rights. We have the best constitutional rights attorneys assisting us and we hope everyone will read the letter below from the Partnership for Civil Justice to Virginias Attorney General." Anti-war demonstrations are not victimless actions. Talk to any Nam Vet.
This country allows freedom of assembly and freedom to protest. Ask any vet.
Perhaps someday, you will experience the flip side. I pray you won't.
The Golden Rule applies here, whether you realize it or not.
I'm rubber, you're glue, what you say bounces off me and sticks to you.
HA-HA!
You got me. Uncle. I give.
you answered:Sorry my words "rely on" seemed to have an alternate meaning to you, I assure you that critical thinking is my middle name. LOL! Perhaps clear writing is not my strength"
Well, you're half right - and you may be expert at 'critical thinking,' but, you see, I, myself, am a journalist - actually won a first place award from my home state's Press Association - included in their reasons for the award was my "clear writing."
Though I am one of 'them', I am not blind to the prevalence of rubber-banding the truth, either directly or by omission =
But back to your remarks; I would think that "clear writing" would be a prerequisite for a 'critical thinker' ???
Or would it be that a clear thinker would be more critical in their writing? Ah well, have a good one...
You had to admit that even simple words like 'rely on' can be interpreted in more than one way. Sometimes when trying to express a thought in a sentence or two on this forum, statements can be misinterpreted - just as statements in any article written by any journalist can be misinterpreted.
When you criticized me for using the words 'rely on,' you said that you did your own research. If you are researching something prior to, say, 1910, would you not also have to rely on written words? That was the point I was trying to make. Again, sorry that I was not clear enough in my written words. I never said that written words are gospel. It has been my lifetime experience that it is practically impossible for a reporter to get all the information in an article completely correct. Whenever I read an article of which I have firsthand knowledge, I will see errors. That's life, even if the reporter is not bringing any bias to the particular story.
There are antiwar protests in San Francisco (March 18th) and Los Angeles (March 17th) that you can go and counter.
Thanks for the tip, but no thanks. Fairly or not, I've gotten the impression from this very thread that a large minority of those I'd be counter-protesting with are lunatics.
Actually, blocking the permit may be a bad idea. It would cause the antiwar marchers to march through Arlington National Cemetery to get to the Pentagon.
But, can't ANSWER go to George Soros, Hollywood, Hezbollah, or Kim jung Il for some money???
Lunatic fringe...I know you're out there..
