Help Block a permit needed by ANSWER for March 17 protest
ANSWER's website ^ | Feb 26, 2007 | A.N.S.W.E.R.

Posted on 02/27/2007 9:54:40 AM PST by JoyjoyfromNJ

From the ANSWER website regarding a permit needed for their March 17 2007 anti-war demonstration/march from the Vietnam Memorial (Constitution Gardens)to the Pentagon:

"The State of Virginia Department of Transportation finally met with us last Thursday afternoon, February 22. At that meeting they demanded that we obtain one million dollars in insurance, hire an engineering firm to determine their traffic and road closure plan, and agree to pay a user fee of thousands and possibly tens of thousands of dollars for before we will be given a permit to march on Route 27 on the way to the Pentagon. We are talking about a stretch of highway under Virginia’s jurisdiction that is about 100 yards long. . . . . We need everyone’s help in two areas:

One thing you can do is to provide political support for the public Free Speech campaign. We are mounting a large scale legal and political effort to secure our rights. We have the best constitutional rights attorneys assisting us and we hope everyone will read the letter below from the Partnership for Civil Justice to Virginia’s Attorney General." Link to their letter to the AG: http://answer.pephost.org/site/DocServer/McDonnell_ltr_2_23_07.pdf?docID=5141

I don't think it is their right to protest that is being questioned. Why should tax payers pay for services needed for the protest. Police, security, crowd control, traffic control. Clean up after ECT. The KKK marched in our City and they had to get a permit and pay for security and fencing.

"Unfortunately, the media will never show the public the real face of ANSWER and will portray this as the senitments of the majority of Americans."

Exactly! And, that's the problem today...the liberal media shows/and talks only their viewpoints. Same goes for many College Profs. And, sadly, many people begin to believe their drivel cause it's repeated over and over.

Lib media constantly reports on Libby case implying he "outed" a CIA agent....even when they know that's not true. But, has anyone other than Brit Hume reported that the LA Times wrote a story giving very specific details, without stating names, about CIA agents being sought by Germany. Why wasn't the LA Times editor questioned for 'outing' CIA agents. And, what happened to Sandy Burglar???? We know the answers.

Drives me crazy when the lib media reports "the American people" ....how do they KNOW what the American people believe.....they only speak to each other.

Well, pogo, I was there during those riots, and I can sit here today in 2007 and tell you with all my heart, they did indeed cause cultural decline.

Millions of good, decent people became the now famous "silent majority" because back then, the hallmark of good and decent people was that they minded their own business, did not riot in the streets, and did not discuss politics or religion at gatherings. Just good manners back then...

The Chicago Seven, the Kent State protesters, the Paris peace talks, the Moratorium, et al helped to fracture the national unity, and it has never really recovered. I am not that much older than you. I was a teenaged war bride, and I felt so sad and betrayed to see what was happening.
My Dad was a MM veteran of WWII. He was torpedoed and sunk off the coast of Wales. He was a very strong, very smart man. What the hippies and the Commies did broke his heart.

You weren't there so you don't realize the damage that they are trying to do to our country again. Please join us in Washington on March 17th and stand up for your rights. For only one day, all of us need to stand up for our country and our troops.

You're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts. I never claimed that my statement about protests a la '68 turning OFF onlookers was anything other than my opinion. You claim your opposite view to be a fact. Sorry, you're wrong. Both are opinions.

Unfortunately, I live in CA and couldn't go in any event. But the condescension from others on this thread would have turned me off attending (meaning, I'd be around more of the same sort of people) even if I lived in the DC area. Still, I wish the rest of you folks well!

Now THAT I'm afraid I totally agree with, unless it's perhaps John Stossel on ABC or some other outlier. ANSWER is a Stalinist outfit, and it's not hard to find this out, unless you're relying on the MSM for your facts. Sad, isn't it?

Sorry, I may disagree with the reason they are protesting, but they have all the right in the world to protest.

Spot on.

I was going to post the exact same thing but thought to scan the thread first to see if anyone else "gets it".

I may object to what they say but will defend to the death, their right to say it.

Our Constitution must apply to all or it means nothing.

International A.N.S.W.E.R. derives its name from the acronym for "Act Now to Stop the War and End Racism."

A.N.S.W.E.R.'s website states that The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition formed on September 14, 2001. It is a coalition of hundreds of organizations and prominent individuals and scores of organizing centers in cities and towns across the country. Its national steering committee represents major national organizations that have campaigned against U.S. intervention in Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East and Asia, and organizations that have campaigned for civil rights and for social and economic justice for working and poor people inside the United States.

International A.N.S.W.E.R. is a post-9/11 creation of the International Action Center, one of many front groups for the Workers World Party.  The Workers World Party supported the Chinese government's 1989 Tienanmen Square massacre.  It also supports the "socialist" North Korean dictatorship of Kim Jong Il,  views Iraq's Saddam Hussein as a beacon of anti-imperialist resistance and defends the genocidal Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic.

*nod* Thanks! I didn't remember the details, but it's those (details that you link) that I'm thinking of when I say "Stalinist." I do not use that word lightly, but in ANSWER's case it's a justly deserved adjective.

That's mainly what I was driving at -- or that, plus the comforting guess that in THIS case, the protest is likely to make the protesters' cause LESS popular. (Of course, I fully support the authorities' requiring the protest organizers to have bonds, insurance, etc. like anyone else.)

Every time ANSWER protests, support for the war increases, because people start hating the anti-war protesters more than the war iteslf. These communists, radicals and Islamists do what we cannot do.

If I may steal Doctor Raoul's message:

"ANSWER gets it's money from 501(3)c tax deductible front groups. They've got plenty of money, so let the communists pay for their share of the people's needs.

Social Justice isn't free.

Treason Should Not Be Tax Deductible."

Let ANSWER protest but also let them pay and meet the demands of Virginia. The tax payer paid for the extra security and to sand blast the Capitol steps after the January 27 protest.

FREEDOM ISN'T FREE, even in this case.

Hah! Good luck to ANSWER. Route 27 is one of the most heavily traveled commuter roads in Northern Virginia. A protest march on it will F up traffic all over Arlington for an entire day. Not to mention the legitimate security, tourism, and public safety issues, as this road parallels an above-ground METRO line and passes in front of Arlington National Cemetery on its way to the Pentagon. It's not like this protest HAS to go to the Pentagon. The commies can protest all day long on the Mall. So the whole free speech argument is BS.

I'll bet ANSWER doesn't get this permit. And there will be scads of arrests if they try to march over Memorial Bridge without a permit.

I guess it is just the three of us.
If others have to pay for a permit, police, etc, then so should these guys. If not, then neither should they.
To do anything else would be like taxing one opinion and not another.
The problem is not the vocal minority but that the majority IS the SILENT majority.

If the group has a history of destruction, then don't give them a permit or require a bond. If not then no bond. The conditions of the permit should be based on past behavior of the group - NOT the viewpoint of the group.

Well they need to take some of that money and buy a clue, because they are not going to get to close down a major commuter and tourist road for a stupid and pointless protest.

"It's not like this protest HAS to go to the Pentagon"

Let em go to the Pentagon. And, make them pay - big time.

That will get them away from the monuments where their wacko cooks could do damage.
