Help Block a permit needed by ANSWER for March 17 protest
ANSWER's website ^ | Feb 26, 2007 | A.N.S.W.E.R.

From the ANSWER website regarding a permit needed for their March 17 2007 anti-war demonstration/march from the Vietnam Memorial (Constitution Gardens)to the Pentagon:

"The State of Virginia Department of Transportation finally met with us last Thursday afternoon, February 22. At that meeting they demanded that we obtain one million dollars in insurance, hire an engineering firm to determine their traffic and road closure plan, and agree to pay a user fee of thousands and possibly tens of thousands of dollars for before we will be given a permit to march on Route 27 on the way to the Pentagon. We are talking about a stretch of highway under Virginia’s jurisdiction that is about 100 yards long. . . . . We need everyone’s help in two areas:

One thing you can do is to provide political support for the public Free Speech campaign. We are mounting a large scale legal and political effort to secure our rights. We have the best constitutional rights attorneys assisting us and we hope everyone will read the letter below from the Partnership for Civil Justice to Virginia’s Attorney General." Their site also has a link to send email to the Viriginia Attorney General. So VA freepers certainly have an interest in how their Attorney General deals with this. Since he is a veteran of 21 years of Army service himself, I'm sure he'd appreciate receiving respectful support from us. His contact info follows:

Bob McDonnell,Attorney General of Virginia

Office of the Attorney General

900 East Main Street

Richmond, VA 23219

Just to alert you to a potential glitch (we hope) in ANSWER's plan for the Pentagon end of the demonstration. If any of you know how to active a ping list for Virginia (or even a "DC chapter ping", I'd appreciate it.

Of course ANSWER are a bunch of a$$clowns, but I tend to take the attitude, "LET them have their stupid protest," although certainly with proper bonding/insurance safeguards. "LET ordinary, sane people peek into Bedlam, and let's see just how many people ANSWER recruits vs. how many they alienate."

Now THAT's almost funnier than CodePink not renewing their Walter Reed permit before Freepers secured the spot.

Not like they won't march that short stretch without a permit.

"LET ordinary, sane people peek into Bedlam, and let's see just how many people ANSWER recruits vs. how many they alienate."

Clearly you were not around during the riots/protests of the 60s and 70s. They were ignored and they grew throwing our country into a decline that has not stopped since.

Freepers secured the spot.

Actually, Protest Warriors secured the spot. Of course they also happen to be FReepers. ;*)

First off, check your tone. I'm 39, but does that really matter?

I don't think the protests that I've seen (yes, in old footage, not "live") from, e.g., the '68 Dem Convention caused any kind of cultural decline. If they "caused" anything, it was a narrow Nixon win in '68 and an landslide win in '72. Protests (of that nature) don't CAUSE cultural decline; they open a window onto insanity, and turn people off to the protesters' cause.

Sorry, I may disagree with the reason they are protesting, but they have all the right in the world to protest. I I spent 12 years of my life in the service defending their right to protest what ever they wish, no matter how much I disagree with it.

You won't be getting my support on this issue.

Okay, now I'm ticked!!! There was no "tone" there, but you will see one now.

they open a window onto insanity, and turn people off to the protesters' cause.

That is factually incorrect. This is not the time or place to to argue the facts.

ANSWER gets it's money from 501(3)c tax deductable front groups. They've got plenty of money, so let the communists pay for their share of the people's needs.

Social Justice isn't free.

Treason Should Not Be Tax Deductable.

they have all the right in the world to protest

So do the Gathering of Eagles. Do you support them as well?

This issue is NOT about their right to protest, it is about funding their own protest as opposed to making the taxpayers pay for it.

obtain one million dollars in insurance, hire an engineering firm to determine their traffic and road closure plan, and agree to pay a user fee of thousands and possibly tens of thousands of dollars

If I have to pay a toll to drive a stretch of road why shouldn't they have to pay to shut down a major thoroughfare in a major city.

"...but they have all the right in the world to protest."

I agree with that but why should the state of Virginia have to shut down a highway for the day?

Unfortunately, the media will never show the public the real face of ANSWER and will portray this as the senitments of the majority of Americans.

If they want to close roads, they should pay. If they want extra police protection, they should pay. The taxpayers need to stop subsidizing this kind of crap. Time for the commies to grow up and subsidize themselves....oh, I know, it sounds too much like, gasp, capitalism.

Old TV footage does not offer the insight needed to understand the counterculture movement of that time in history.

It was a destructive force, and it's ramifications surround us today. We can see it in the marxist ideology of the democrat party, it's members the protestors back then.Look to the cultural marxism that infects our public schools and universities, the teachers and professors who set policy today were burning their bras,American flags and draft cards 40 years ago.

Bullsh*t.
They're going to cross the memorial bridge and walk 100 yds up 27. Yeah, that will get them close to the Pentagon. LOL. Liars.
