In what could be the simplest explanation for one component of global warming, a new study shows the Sun's radiation has increased by .05 percent per decade since the late 1970s.
The increase would only be significant to Earth's climate if it has been going on for a century or more, said study leader Richard Willson, a Columbia University researcher also affiliated with NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.
The Sun's increasing output has only been monitored with precision since satellite technology allowed necessary observations. Willson is not sure if the trend extends further back in time, but other studies suggest it does.
"This trend is important because, if sustained over many decades, it could cause significant climate change," Willson said.
In a NASA-funded study recently published in Geophysical Research Letters, Willson and his colleagues speculate on the possible history of the trend based on data collected in the pre-satellite era.
"Solar activity has apparently been going upward for a century or more," Willson told SPACE.com today.

So what kind of car do I have to drive to cool off the sun, Al Gore?
Which end of the hose do you want algore?

"the Sun's radiation has increased by .05 percent per decade since the late 1970s."
That will get her done regarding global warming.
OOoops. Hollywood wants the Oscar back
This crazy notion that the Sun may have some kind of warming affect on the planet is completely without merit! Whoever heard of such a thing!
That makes no sense at all!

(in before the bearmanpig)
It won't matter what you drive, just wait a couple more years and ol' Al will be big enough to blot out the sun. :>)
Since joining the ranks of hollyweird, I think he's trying to emulate his buddy Michael Moore.
Or...IBTMBP
:)
I blame all those people with solar panels on their houses. They should have to buy solar reflection offsets.
Everyone knows warming is caused by SUVs, but I don't think there could be that many on the sun to heat it up that much! And, like, how do the SUVs get to the sun anyways? And don't they melt or something? It's like, weird. Everyone should go outside and hold up mirrors or something.
That is why we have global warming on planet Mars. I know, many will believe it was caused by the Mars Exploration Rovers :(
That Bush and his Oil buddies! Now they are even causing Global Warming on OTHER plants! Save US bearmanpig!
I've done some aurora photography and have read papers written by people in sun-specific sciences (observers of the sun and geo-magnetic activities). Many of them have been saying the same for a few years.
If solar radiation is increasing, do I have to start wearing lead-lined underwear?
You mean I wasted all that money?? I was trying to get it warmer this weekend so I could get some outdoor work done and bought a couple hundred cans of freon for target practice and smoked a whole box of cigars, you know, just trying to do my part......
