Washington. Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani addressed his Democratic past on Tuesday and offered one reason for his political conversion the economy and taxes.
"I don't think anything separates us more right now between Republicans and Democrats than how we look at taxes," the former New York mayor said. "What we understand as Republicans is that, sure, the government is an important player in this, but we are essentially a private economy. What Democrats really believe ... is that it is essentially a government economy."

and another angle here - which is a sensitive subject - but let's face it, the multi-ethnic, multi-racial, makeup of the city, provides more opportunites for "hotheaded" behavior.
You actually proved my/our point. You truly need to go looking for crime to find it. Care to post how many precincts there are in NYC?
When he ran for Mayor, did he make any campaign promises that he broke while in office? If so, what were they.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_New_York,_Brooklyn
"Since 1993, the crime rate in the East New York (75th Precinct) has plummeted. In 2004, for example, there were 29 homicides compared to 126 in 1993. Public safety has been followed by increases in real estate values and residential construction catering to a diverse array of working- and middle-class New Yorkers. New developments are rising in the area, including the Gateway Center, located on what was once part of a landfill near Jamaica Bay. The Gateway shopping mall in Starrett City near East New York is suburban-style, including retailers like Bed Bath & Beyond, Staples, Marshalls, Circuit City, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Boulder Creek Steakhouse, Target, The Home Depot, and BJ's Wholesale Club. The development was welcomed by many in the neighborhood for the jobs it would provide."
self-ping.
---Thats not what any of us were saying. Your arms had to reach around the block to put those words in our mouths.---
It's exactly what you're saying! And who you are supporting. You guys don't need guns because NYC is so safe,
---(BTW, this is me joining you in laughing hysterically)---
Meantime zarf is debating whether certain others should be permitted to keep and bear.
Are you going to tell me you're an NRA member now? :^)
Your question is a good one. Perhaps the question should be why one region of the country or one city's standards should apply to the rest of the country?
Newt: "He is much stronger than anyone could have predicted six months ago," said former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich from Georgia. "New York is four times safer than it used to be. It's one of the greatest achievements of government capability in the 20th century. And Rudy just has to go out and say, 'This is who I am. If you think the world's dangerous, and you need a tough guy
that's me.' "
Now, just what do you think it means, nitwit? The greatest achievements of government capability in the 20th century?
Because he saved taxpayer's money, reoganized NYC government offices, cut taxes, cut out social services that weren't serving those they were designed to help, etc. Sounds fiscally conservative to me.
But hey, maybe Newt meant that Rudy's achievements were because he raised taxes or something. /rolling my eyes
that the constitutional argument too. does the 2A mean that my CCW permit from Alabama, must be honored everywhere in the US? like a drivers license? I don't think the NRA wants to touch that one.
Herman Goebbles?
Is that what you think? That because I dont necessarily feel the need to carry in my personal circumstance that it means I automatically dont support RTKBA? I support the Constitution whether or not it happens to benefit me personally at the moment, and yes, I am a member and give additional $$$ to the NRA's PAC.
I already explained this on another thread, but I'll assume you didn't read it, Try to follow along.
"New York is four times safer than it used to be.
Safer.
It's one of the greatest achievements of government capability in the 20th century
"It's" is referring to the increased public safety.
And Rudy just has to go out and say, 'This is who I am. If you think the world's dangerous, and you need a tough guy that's me.' "
What does being a tough guy in a dangerous world have to do with fiscal policy? Nothing, because Newt's entire statement is about public safety and crime reduction and has nothing to do with fiscal issues.
At least you provided an accurate quote this time, but it would help if you understood what it meant.
---Is that what you think? --
Well, obviously it is.
So, you're putting aside your pro-gun convictions to support someone who is anti-gun?
Or are you telling me that Giulliani is actually pro-gun?
Ping, carefull what you say now.
I invite you to go invest in real estate on Pitkin Avenue.
Neither. Obviously, Rudy's record in NYC was not one that could be characterized as pro-gun. But because I have confidence in the guy, I think he will understand that what worked in NYC will not necessarily work for the entire country. He said that he will not enact any new gun legislation, and when he says stuff, we in this metro area know we can believe him. He isnt a liar and he isnt dumb. You guys say actions speak louder than words, well he does what he says he is going to do. That is his record.
He fixed serious issues that 20-25 years worth of mayors behind him couldnt even put a dent in. Before Rudy, crime and failed economics was so endemic to NYC that supposition that it still is that way is burned into the mindset of many as evidenced in this thread.
It's too bad you don't. Even in NYC, someone can easily shoot up a restaurant or mall and kill a half-dozen people before committing suicide or getting offed by a cop. Just look what happened in Salt Lake City, and Utah is one of the most pro-gun states in the nation.
Excellent advice. With gentrification you will probably quintuple your investment in 3-5 years.
