THE pain was unbearable. And when her dead baby was whisked away from her, there was nothing she could do to tear her eyes away.
Wracked by the agony of labour and emotionally drained by the magnitude of her decision to end her baby's life, Sarah's* sobs echoed around the hospital suite.
This was the last place this young woman ever thought she'd be. But, for an increasing number of women, the abortion suite is becoming a familiar place.
Today, Sarah can finally look back on the misery of aborting her 22-week pregnancy with a degree of acceptance.
But she is still haunted by it.
"It was just horrendous, absolutely horrendous," she groans.
"Afterwards I felt so guilty that I didn't want to be alive any more.I didn't eat, I only drank. I think that's what happens to a lot of girls - they drink to forget it."

For your pro-life lists!
22 weeks! At this point we're coming to the end of the Supreme Court's made-up term of "2nd trimester". By that point the woman feels the baby move and certianly feels a bond. Unless overweight she would already look pregnant so it would no longer be a secret. What could drive a woman to such a decision?
To me the real criminals are the abortionists and their peddlers over at planned parenthood.
We let murderers go free.
So, tell me, what has an innocent baby ever done to deserve execution?
We just found out the baby my Mrs is expecting will be a girl...our 3rd child, and our 1st girl...I can't, for the life of me, visualize doing ANYTHING to harm my little princess.
To most people , Murder is hard to live with.
Only hardened criminals and abortionists have no problem with it.
There must be a special corner in hell for Doctors who take the hippocratic oath and violate it in this manner.
In most cases, financial and/or logistical obstacles to doing it earlier, or late discovery of a serious abnormality. In this case, flat out stupidity ("I'd stopped taking the Pill and my periods were really irregular, so I thought I couldn't get pregnant", then proceeded to ignore other symptoms such as unusual tiredness, until finally going to a doctor at 4.5 months because she "woke up one day and felt quite dodgy").
Please FReepmail me if you would like to be added to, or removed from, the Pro-Life/Pro-Baby ping list...
This is like two different forums. Here we have a post on the horror that is abortion today. On other threads, we have FReepers telling us that abortion is now "settled law" and so we need to "move on."
Thanks for the ping!
I do believe this someone like this young girl would be a good candidate for forgiveness.
Science now tells us that a young person's brain does not stop maturing until the early twenties. And they say that many of the decisions that young people make are NOT the same decisions that they would make when they are in their mid twenties or older.
It is easy to condemn her actions. But I think showing her Christian forgiveness can actually STOP another abortion from occuring.
Perhaps her story told today will make another young girl THINK.
According to the article, she had just found out she was pregnant at that point. This woman is apparently not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Dig this account of the fallout from a home defense shooting, posted in this thread:
ROCKFORD, Minn. -- For Eric Cegon, the past few months have been filled with sleeping pills, anxiety and visits to a therapist. His girlfriend, Samantha Simons, is having chest pains she also attributes to anxiety and has also turned back to the religious faith she abandoned as a teenager.
In December, Cegon used a shotgun to fatally shoot Simon's ex-boyfriend, Erik Richter, when he broke into the couple's Rockford home at 3:30 one morning, armed with a gun.
"You killed me," the couple heard Richter gasp after dropping a half-cocked handgun. Cegon shot him a second time, just to be sure.
...
Simons said she ended the relationship because of his increasing meth use and violence.
Richter reportedly had been threatening to kill Cegon and had threatened Simons with a knife.
Cegon said the shooting left him in a complete daze for about a week until he looked at the program for Richter's funeral.
"He broke down and started crying," Simons said. "He looked at me and cried some more. Then he started playing his guitar. I think he tries to block it out because he doesn't want to feel the sadness and the hurt."
Eric Cegon killed to protect his family from a violent meth addict who had broken into their home in the dead of night, and he is horrified that he did this thing. But there are people who make their living ripping small children limb from limb, and even if it does bother them on some level, they certainly can't be having as much pain about it as Eric Cegon. If they were, they would stop! Some of them, such as the late Richards Ragsdale of Rockford Illinois, responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of small children) even go to church every Sunday. Ragsdale even sang in the choir.
And yet, there are people who say there is no such thing as good and evil.
The abortion industry & its flacks in politics, the press & the medical establishment systematically refuse to address this: the extraordinary toll on the mental health of the girls & women who've been seduced by the pro-abortion lobby into believing that this brutally violent procedure is as simple as swatting away a fly.
The act of aborting a child is so completely antithetical to the way females are hardwired that, for most of the women who succumb to the pressures to do it, it takes a lifetime of self-anaesthesia to keep the tremendously onerous guilt they feel suppressed in their subconscious.
The majority of women I've known who've had an early term abortion have struggled with substance addiction, yet these are mostly women who grew up in nonreligious, ardently pro-choice families & who were themselves enthusiastic participants of the modern popular culture that scorns self-sacrifice & celebrates abortion as a "noble" choice. In other words, these girls shouldn't have had a problem adjusting to their decision to abort, if indeed it were truly as 'safe' a procedure as it's always advertised to be.
But the girls I knew were completely unprepared for the collateral damage to their own humanity that occurred when their "fetal tissue" was "terminated" and have spent most of their adult lives applying liquid band-aids to invisible wounds that will never be acknowledged let alone treated by the mainstream medical community.
All the latest "soft-wiring" - the pervasive pro-abortion propaganda saturating our pseudofeminst culture through NARAL & Hollywood & Washington - just can't overcome the impulse to nurture that's indelibly imprinted in every normal female's DNA.
As a consequence, abortion doesn't just destroy the life of a completely innocent bystander, the child in the womb, it also inevitably butchers the soul of every woman who commits it, as the woman in this story was able to recognize relatively soon thereafter.
Sadly, as you pointed out, most women & girls in this culture are not allowed to discover that truth until after it is indeed already too late, sometimes decades later, if ever at all.
So, I have to say, it's rather shocking to see this issue addressed in such an upfront way outside of an op-ed piece in a mainstream, nonreligious news publication in the UK. We'd certainly never see that over here.
I wonder if the soaring rates of female alcoholism in the UK has left public health officials there no other alternative but to directly acknowledge that epidemic's causal relationship with the concomitant spike in the abortion rate?
