Likewise, Mary was assumed body and soul into Heaven.

I never heard that one before.

The assumption of the Virgin is Church tradition. It's not in the Bible and it's not in the Nicene Creed. It is, however, a very ancient tradition. I suppose we could all get into a huge theological argument about it but I doubt whether anyone in this community has the creds to do much besides rant about it.

According to Catholic doctrine and the traditions of the Catholic Church, the Blessed Virgin Mary (Mary, the mother of Jesus) "having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory."

The quoted part was a decree by Pope Pius XII in 1950, but the story of Mary's death (or lack of Earthly death) go back to the early days of Christianity.

It's a Catholic thing. We're taught that Mary ascended into heaven.
