Fine, change it to Muhammed and publish it again. I'm sure others will see the joke.

The real crime is that it's not funny.

Poland has contributed troops to Iraq and Afghanistan and they want us to build a missile shield on their territory. That makes anything Polish fair game to the news media sh*tbirds.

magazine never intended to offend anyone when it published a cartoon that joked about a Polish name and drunkenness.
Cool.
I only wonder why those kids in the cartoon are not saying - let's say - My parents named me Yitzhak because they were drunk.
That one also seems to be difficult to pronounce

IMHO, just about everyone is made of fragile glass these days.

Kids might talk that way, in all innocence. But when adults take the words down, verbatim, and publish the depiction as "cute", that is with either malice aforethought, or no thought at all.
Insensitivity for the sake of laughs alone is the cruelest sort of taunting, even more so when there is no particular point to it.

Remnick decides what cartoons to publish. IMO he's got terrible taste. One in ten is amusing. Most are sophomoric.

I am not polish, so it's no skin off my nose, but the cartoon just is not amusing in any way.
The cartoon is an insult, no matter how they try and back peddal.
I have never know Polish families to be anything other than warm, loving, hard working tradionalists who fought for their freedom against the Soviet Union and for our fine republic.
This guy Webber must be a SCREAM at parties.

It would have been funnier if it read: "My parents named me Tiffany because they were drunk."
But not very funny. The whole scene looks depressing, right down to the mud puddle in the foreground.

Stop the presses! What's the circulation of The New Yorker? A few hundred thousand? I don't subscribe, but pick up older copies for free at the Library because I DO like their cartoons. ;) (The rest of the mag is cr@p.)

OK, not the funniest cartoon the New Yorker has ever published. But not bad. Rather droll. Some tightly-wound people will be offended. Sucks to be them.

If they did this about Muslims, blacks, or hispanics, there would be hell to pay - but apparently making fun of Eruopean Americans is O.K. with the leftist liberal establishment.
The New Yorker Magazine is a piece of liberal trash anyway. I'd as soon read it as read "The Hollywood Magazine" or "San Franciso at Night".
