Tori Kovach of Aberdeen, left, is a regular feature on downtown streets, often seen near the Wishkah Bridge holding signs protesting the war in Iraq or chastising President Bush. On Wednesday, Sgt. Brendan Chamburs, the Marine Corps recruiter stationed in Aberdeen, saw Kovach holding a protest sign near Quiznos and decided to stage a counter-demonstration.
He had his sign made at Coast Line Signs. Kovach was unmoved, saying, I believe in the military, but I think the military is being misused. They are dying for a lie. A few people honked their horns as they drove by, but not everyone was inclined to support free speech. Before Sgt. Chamburs showed up, someone threw an egg at Kovach from a passing car, hitting his sign.
Welcome, welcome, welcome to Free Republic?
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your courage.
God bless you Sgt. Chamburs. God Bless you.

Thanks for everything!!!
Semper Fi, Sgt. Chamburs. You are a credit to the Corps.
Bless you, Sgt Chamburs. Thank you for all you do and for holding your one MAN vigil.
Please add my words of thanks to your son for his service. God Bless him and keep him safe.
Thank you, sir.
We are not perfect here at FR. There is no perfection in this world. We have our own "crazy uncles" who will go off on the occasional tirade that the rest of us are embarrassed by (I'm afraid I probably fall into that category as far as some of my friends here are concerned ;^>).
However, I have found this community to be one of the most effective and clear thinking of any in the new media, on balance. Your presence here is a great joy to me and your actions give me great comfort for the future of our nation and for the open and free culture that we have been at the leading edge of developing.
Are we perfect in this nation? Hell no! To bastardize the quote, we are the worst that there is... except for all of the others. And you, sir, represent the best of what makes us worthy of continuing to exist.
Again, thank you.
"Land of the free because of the brave"
BIG DITTO and Thank you sir.
Honk, honk, beep, beep! Too all Marine and Navy recruiters.
Keep up the good work. You have a lot of folks on your side.
Thank you Sgt Chambers. And may God bless you and watch over you. I feel so honored to have such brave young men and women willing to stand up for this country. America is truly blessed by God to have such as you standing watch for all of us.
A big Semper Fi to this Marine who had just about enough of the useful idiots.
Your son is part of the new "greatest" generation.
Sgt. Chamburs,
First off, Thank You for your service to our great country. Thank you for standing up to the anti-war protesters by holding a sign yourself in support of the brave men and women of the US Military. This truly showed your character, strength and dedication to our country.
We may not have been there physically with you but most Americans were with you in spirit.
God Bless You, we are more than happy to support you and the rest of the brave men and women in the US Military as well, anytime, anywhere, and anyway we can.
Thank you Sgt.
You da man.
Ping.
I'm the proud Marine dad of newly-promoted Cpl. Namsman Jr. Since all Marines are brothers, I can say well done son! Your Marine mom says "Semper Fi".
Does Kovach know the name of anyone in the military?
