Poll Shows Giuliani Love Across the Country (Rudy Beats All Dem Candidates by at Least 5%)
Gothamist.com ^ | 2.22.07 | Mary Ann Chastain

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani got good and bad news from the Quinnipiac Poll.

The good news: He beats Senator Hillary Clinton, 48% to her 43% in a national poll conducted last week.

The bad news: It's still over 18 months to go until Election 2008.

Quinnipiac drilled down to the red, blue and purple state level: Giuliani beats Clinton 55-38 in states that voted Republican in the 2004 election.

Interestingly, he ties her 46-46 in the blue states, while it's close in "purple states" (where the "margin in 2004 was less than 7%) - Giuliani has 44% while Clinton has 45%. Here are some more matchups:

- Senator John McCain edges Clinton, 46 - 44 percent

- Clinton tops former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 49 - 37 percent;

- Giuliani beats Illinois Sen. Barack Obama 47 - 40 percent;

- Giuliani tops 2004 vice presidential candidate John Edwards 48 - 40 percent;

- McCain ties Obama 43 - 43 percent;

- McCain gets 43 percent to Edward's 42 percent, a tie;

- Obama tops Romney 49 - 29 percent;

- Edwards beats Romney 48 - 32 percent.

Giuliani would win a Republican primary with 40% of Republican primary voters supporting him over McCain who would get just 18%, while Clinton would win a primary with 38% over Obama (23%). Furthermore, the Quinnipiac poll shows that Giuliani has the highest favorability rating of all candidates, with 57%, which Clinton has 46%, McCain has 51% and Obama has 44% (notably, 40% don't know enough about Obama to form an opinion.

Yesterday, Mayor Giuliani was campaigning in South Carolina. On the news last night, WNBC's Melissa Russo noted something unusual: While the crowds were very friendly to Giuliani, even reporters (from Southern papers) asked Giuliani to take pictures with him.

I'm not bashing Reagan in anyway. I was just using him as an example of how people can and do change. However, you have no evidence that Giuliani's change of heart in not genuine. I for one, certainly don't think Hannity would lie about that. By the way, Rudy was Reagan's Associate Attorney General and was awarded the Reagan Freedom Award. Good day.

An FR is poll is not scientific and can in no way tell you anything about what the American electorate is feeling. There is not point in even using it at all because it proves NOTHING!!
***First, allow me to point out that you're obfuscating. An FR poll tells us what's going on in FR, which represents the socon base, more or less. Your contention is that it proves nothing, my contention is that it proves that Giuliani splits the base. Of course, you just breeze over my contention and go into straw argumentation. You simply have not made the case for your candidate. He's doomed. If he gets the nomination, he splits the base -- what is his plan for a split base? No one has ever won a Republican presidency with a split base. Second, allow me to notice that you're getting shrill, which is a sign of frustration. It's also a sign that Duncan Hunter is gaining ground on your candidate. It's all a downward spiral after that. Third, there is currently a poll on FR for Giuliani against Hunter, with Hunter getting about 80% of this "base which belong to us". FReep this poll: Giuliani vs Duncan Hunter

It indicates nothing. Anyways, you have your view, I have mine, lets just leave it at that. We'll find out what happens soon enough anyways.
***It proves that Giuliani is making no traction in the base and that he needs to come up with a plan of winning the presidency with a split republican party. I don't envy him.

No an FR poll doesn't mean anything because its not scientific. Do you understand the difference between a scientific poll and a random website poll? No, of course not!! If you did, you surely wouldn't use a website poll!! All the scientific polls show Rudy holding the base against Hillary, every single one of them.

***Feel free to post those scientific polls right alongside all the scientific polls that had Bill Sali losing by such a wide margin.

Sure, upsets do happen. That's why they are called upsets. My main point is though, a FR poll is not scientific and doesn't accurately represent or indication anything.

The vast majority of Rudy supporters ARE Conservatives, have NEVER voted for a Dem, and most assuredly have not and WILL NOT stay home, vote for some ridiculous fringe party candidate, or vote for Hillary, Obama, Richardson, Edwards, or whoever winds up being the Dem candidate in '08.

The whole WRONG WAY CORRIGAN use us completely wrong; not to mention specious and I bet that you had to go GOOGLE, to find out all about that story....not I!

My grandmother would often tell in real history, when I asked for a story, as a bitty child. She was alive when Corrigan made his famous flight and told me all about; in detail. It's a great adventure story and what you've left out, is that everyone KNEW what he was doing, when he filed the false flight plan. But they couldn't stop him, because every I was dotted and every T crossed. Neither was he "punished", in any way; but rather, he was a HERO and hailed as such.

If you want to stick with your specious analogy, then okay, I'll play along, for the nonce. Rudy WILL win the nomination, he WILL win the presidency, and some of the very people here, who are berating and vilifying him and his supporters WILL change their tune once he is president and claim that he IS not only a HERO, but that they have always been a supporter of his.

Oh yeah, I know the story...You and the Rudytards have got your flight plan filed. You want to put a "conservative" (wink, wink) in the White House. But everyone KNOWS what you're really doing.

To: nopardons

Just wrong way. Nothing conservative about them.

Which is what the Rudybots always say whenever Rudy the flaming liberal gets bashed over the head in another Free Republic poll.

"You and the Rudytards "

What is a Rudytard? A retard? Very CHRISTIAN of you, to be calling fellow conservatives, very conservative, moderate, centrist or right leaning 'retards' becuase you happen to disagree with him or her.

Gotta love them Christian values!

Unlike YOU, I am a CONSERVATIVE a GOPer, but also a pragmatist and a realist, who wants to keep the Dems out of the White House; permanently!

Also unlike you, I do know and understand HOW politics works.

I am willing and happy to get about 70% of the things I want, instead of nothing I want and everything I don't want. I see a glass 1/2 full; you see NO glass at all.

Why repost someone else's post to me? Am I supposed to be impressed with your HTML skills and/or those words? I'M NOT!

Santorum's key swing voters were pro-life and pro-gun Dems and Indies. Please show how Rudy will attract those voters.

Please show what good those "key swing voters" did last November for Santorum.

Your insinuating the ONLY reason Santorum lost was because pro-life demo's and Indy's went with Casey. I thought Rick was in trouble long before the election - big trouble, but I don't follow Pennsylvania politics that closely.

No, I am not. However, Santorum could not win once he lost those votes.

Google is our friend...if you were to Google Corrigan you would discover that he was "punished"...his plane was dismantled and he lost his pilot license.

I have never known anyone who knows as much as you do about eveything.:-)

What political experience do you have, and which elective office did you hold with ALL that experience?

Duncan Hunter is coming to Idaho Thursday! Hopefully I can make the trip.

I better because I am praying he'll get too busy to come back.

I'm seriously considering driving down to San Diego for the $250/plate fundraiser he's having soon. But my wife would probably tell me not to bother driving back... ;-)
