Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani got good and bad news from the Quinnipiac Poll.
The good news: He beats Senator Hillary Clinton, 48% to her 43% in a national poll conducted last week.
The bad news: It's still over 18 months to go until Election 2008.
Quinnipiac drilled down to the red, blue and purple state level: Giuliani beats Clinton 55-38 in states that voted Republican in the 2004 election.
Interestingly, he ties her 46-46 in the blue states, while it's close in "purple states" (where the "margin in 2004 was less than 7%) - Giuliani has 44% while Clinton has 45%. Here are some more matchups:
- Senator John McCain edges Clinton, 46 - 44 percent
- Clinton tops former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 49 - 37 percent;
- Giuliani beats Illinois Sen. Barack Obama 47 - 40 percent;
- Giuliani tops 2004 vice presidential candidate John Edwards 48 - 40 percent;
- McCain ties Obama 43 - 43 percent;
- McCain gets 43 percent to Edward's 42 percent, a tie;
- Obama tops Romney 49 - 29 percent;
- Edwards beats Romney 48 - 32 percent.
Giuliani would win a Republican primary with 40% of Republican primary voters supporting him over McCain who would get just 18%, while Clinton would win a primary with 38% over Obama (23%). Furthermore, the Quinnipiac poll shows that Giuliani has the highest favorability rating of all candidates, with 57%, which Clinton has 46%, McCain has 51% and Obama has 44% (notably, 40% don't know enough about Obama to form an opinion.
Yesterday, Mayor Giuliani was campaigning in South Carolina. On the news last night, WNBC's Melissa Russo noted something unusual: While the crowds were very friendly to Giuliani, even reporters (from Southern papers) asked Giuliani to take pictures with him.

I'd rather beat Hillary with Rudy than lose to her with Gingrich I think you're right on target!

Gee, as I recall, in response to the fact that EV worked hard to get a dark-horse conservative elected, you said this:
As we say in the south, even a blind pig finds an acorn every now and then.
Instead of being a big enough man to say "good job".
So don't whine about the tone of things now after you dragged it down a notch yourself.

Really! 26 years and he's never said that. He was disgusted by what he read here.
He used to have respect for the research and what we did at FR but after reading a few Rudy threads last week, I'm afraid he thinks it's a big waste of time posting here. And I'm pretty convinced he's right, although sometimes it's fun to check in for the amusement factor :-)

I don't CARE who you work for. I don't CARE who you support. Then why do you continually attack me personally, making untrue claims based on ignorance and malice?
If you don't want to have your conservative credentials questioned, don't support pro-abort, anti-Bill of Rights liberals. Seems pretty simple to me.

Because, as much as you don't want to admit it, there ARE principled conservatives who are supporting Rudy. The internal contradictions in that sentence are self-evident.

And that includes people who have been here for years, who fought through the Clinton impeachment battles, who fought through the Sore/Loserman battles, who fought to keep Elian safe and sound and in America and who have invested their time and money to keep this site running. Benedict Arnold was the "Hero of Saratoga," right up until the moment he sold out his country.

Oh, I dunno, maybe because you say I'm a "rutard?"
There's a kid inside me EV. Talk to him on his level and he'll throw it right back.

Oh, I dunno, maybe because you say I'm a "rutard?" Actually, the remark was directed at someone else...someone who claimed that if we don't support the liberal Giuliani, communism will reign in America.
Sorry if that hit a tender spot, though.

And THAT's just by the Christians, my supposed brothers and sisters in Christ.
Pro 9:8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
I'd check myself before I wreck myself
But don't question my values. Don't question my intelligence. Don't question my morals. And DON'T question my faith?
You value a babykilling , homosexual promoting, gun grabber. That is a big deal to most Christians. What are your supposed brothers and sisters in Christ supposed to think about your morals and faith.
A man of faith would ask , and trust God to send a righteous leader.
To: Delphinium
When you don't know a person personally you have no right to question their faith or values. How would you like someone to judge you? You people are extremely judgmental and pompous. Did you ever hear the phrase Assuming makes and A$$ out of you and me?

The key fact, far more important than these polls that amount to name recognition.

When I showed my husband, he told me if I ever gave a thin dime to this web site, he'd cut up the credit cards. He's never said that to me before so I'm taking him at his word :-)
Your husband must think FR is a pretty bad site huh? Looks like you are in agreement.
Your task here is quite hard to bear, isn't it?
To: Dominic Harr
To be personally pro-choice is generally thought to be a liberal. However, as a "conservative" by and large, I say let the states decide. The fact that Roe vs. Wade usurped the Tenth Amendment is my primary beef against it. Pragmatically, I view abortion as a type of suicide in the long-term, and since studies over the last few years reveal that around 4 out of 5 people to indulge in this particular "right" are leftist politically, I let it go at that. Never interrupt one's enemy when they're making a mistake. And yes, that means that millions of innocent lives are sacrificed. Seeing as we're dealing with humankind, that's nothing new. Cold? Yes, unfortunately. Freedom is not always pretty.
So I guess that to the people who use abortion as the sole litmus test of whether one is "conservative" or not, I guess I fail. But this definition is faulty, methinks. Adherence to the U.S. Constitution is what defines what is truly "conservative". And letting the states decide such moral issues, should they even choose to, is how this matter would be decided, if the USC was little more than toilet paper at this point in American history.

When you don't know a person personally you have no right to question their faith or valuesWhen you post that you support a pro-abort, pro-gun-grabbing, pro-amnesty, pro-CFR, pro-civil union and pro-global warming candidate, that speaks volumes about your values. Or lack thereof.
And the "no right to question" is right out of the liberal playbook. We have every right to question. It's that First Amendment thingy that you and Rudy seem to hold so much disdain for.
