A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Rehab clinic opens for Murtha and other treason addicts

by JohnHuang2

Events in Baghdad have been moving so fast and furious since the U.S. and Iraqi push began last week that I would ask you to regard everything I've written below to be non-binding.
A few interesting news items on the 'Deepening Iraq Quagmire' from the past week:
* AP: "The leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq was wounded and an aide was killed in a clash . . . with Iraqi forces north of Baghdad, the Interior Ministry spokesman said."
* AP: "An adviser to Iraq's prime minister said Thursday (2/15) that radical Shiite cleric" Muqtada al-Sadr, behind the "nationwide" "Civil War" that had been raging all across several blocks in Baghdad, redeployed back to Iran. The raging Civil Warrior "traveled to Iran by land 'a few days ago,'" said the adviser. So nice to be home at last. Maj. Gen. William Caldwell, top U.S. military spokesman in Iraq, noted that American authorities for months had been tracking Mookie and "all indications are, in fact, that he is in Iran." To the relief of liberals, all indications are tracking Mookie did not involve "wire tapping."
* New York Post, citing wire services: "U.S. and Iraqi forces sweeping through Baghdad met little resistance . . . in an offensive that Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki told President Bush has been a 'brilliant success' so far." The "spokesman for the Iraqi general overseeing the offensive said violent deaths reported in the capital had fallen" by around 80% and even the Boston Globe had to admit that though the "daily number of bodies found with bullet holes and dumped in desolate lots or waterways" in sectarian violence had averaged "60 or 70 per day in December," it's plummeted "to an average of 13 a day over the last week," which Reuters calls the "lowest since the bombing of a Shiite shrine in Samarra a year ago." It hasn't meant the end of detonating suicide belts, marketplace car bombings and other amazingly peaceful Islamic acts, but the surge is just now kicking in and there's a growing sense that soon the Hopeless Iraq Quagmire meme may itself be in serious trouble.
So, recapping: In just one week, violence in Baghdad drops so dramatically, the media briefly reports it; the head al-Qaeda honcho in Iraq goes from Invincible Fierce Fighter to wounded bunny (while his intern pushes up daisies) and al-Mookie reportedly boogies on to Tehran. Had to be that non-binding resolution! The shrewd Mahdi Mookster fled before the resolution could swoop down on him. He was in such a hurry, he booked for a JetBlue flight but it was cancelled.
A week ago, the press had predicted the Iraqis would not even show up for the troop surge. In response, the Iraqis showed up. The International Herald Tribune acknowledged Sunday that "there had been a noticeable increase in the presence of both American and Iraqi forces throughout the capital over" the last week. In Baghdad, checkpoints have been set up, featuring police commandos with armored personnel carriers, stopping cars and motorbikes dead in their tracks by flashing Pelosi's non-binding resolution, while fighter jets circle non-stop overhead, pulling banners displaying the 97-word non-binding resolution.
If you're looking for that one giveaway that Democrats had shaved their heads of any notion of reality, their pitching that non-binding resolution as a way to see off Bush's troop surge is it. On the House floor during "debate," the Runaway Bride put it this way: "The passage of this legislation will signal a change in direction in Iraq" -- paving the way for our troops to be redeployed back to the U.S. Liberals want a troop surge here in America! Those troops could then help protect Georgia from Alabama's menacing armored divisions.

Pelosi calls it "legislation" but the resolution isn't really "legislation" in the usual sense since it's non-binding, especially the part which says, 'We support the troops.'
On the basis that 13 GOP ninnies pledged to vote for the Terrorists Encouragement Resolution, the Washington Post predicted a 'broad swath' of 40 to 60 RINO defectors along for the ride. Libbies were so thrilled, it's like they'd seen a driver's license photo with someone wearing a veil!
The RINO broad swathers in the end amounted to a sweeping total of 17. The non-binding resolution passed, 246-182. Bush responded with a non-binding pledge to give a crap.
But if this was a test run or warm-up act for defunding the war, good luck with that. The very day after the House vote, the resolution hit the skids in the Senate. Sen. Chuck Schumer warned "there will be resolution after resolution, amendment after amendment," just "like the days of Vietnam!" If Bush doesn't stop, we'll force him by repeatedly almost passing non-binding resolutions.

Despite all the 'we will find a way' pandering to Code Pink, Democrats still lack a strategy to lose the war. Libbies are so frustrated with the whole thing, watch some nutjob come out and openly call for undermining the troops -- oops, John Murtha already did. In an interview with some psycho group called MoveCongress.org, the punk let the cat out of the bag: The troops "won't be able to continue. They won't be able to do the deployment (but we support the troops). They won't have the equipment (but we support the troops), they won't have the training and they won't be able to do the work" (but we support the troops). While it's called a 'stealth plan to defund the war,' it's not exactly a 'stealth plan' if it's all over the airwaves.
While we're on the subject of nutjobs, Hillary said in a new video that Bush better start pulling out in "90 days or the Congress will revoke authorization for this war" she authorized. In the video, Hillary stunningly did not claim to be the father of Anna Nicole's baby.
The only reason Democrats got in this mess is that the idiots misread the November elections as a mandate to surrender in Iraq. After the Iraq Study Group uncorked its plan for surrender, and with Rummy out of the way, libbies thought losing the war was in the bag. Kerry blundered in the same way by framing his whole '04 campaign around 'pariah' Bush's horribly 'unpopular' Iraq war. Throughout the campaign, Bush got hammered over missing WMDs, over Abu Ghraib, 'Mission Accomplished,' grim "milestones," not enough armor, war costs, "insurgents," car bombs, sectarian violence, Fallujah, missing explosives at Al Qaqaa, etc. Bush was so politically damaged by all of this, he got reelected.

Two years on, every J School honor grad and her cousin thinks the '06 election was all about people being bummed out over Iraq. Bring our boys home, batten down the hatches and wait for the 12th imam. Right. People were bummed out, yes, but they were bummed out less about the way things were going in Iraq and much more about the things going on in Mark Foley's office -- add to that Bob Ney going to jail, Duke Cunningham going to jail, Jack Abramoff, earmarks, etc. Bush had the GOP on a roll for weeks after the fifth 9/11 anniversary, then along comes the Mark Foley October Surprise strutting its stuff on Soro's stage, so the GOP spends the campaign home stretch talking about pages, lurid e-mails, etc. The elite set may think recent history is up for grabs, but not everybody hits the ol' memory delete button before turning in, so it ain't. With a 2-year run of the Capitol to almost pass "resolution after resolution," "amendment after amendment" in the hopeless quest to force Bush to lose the war for them, or cut them in on the decision-making, now it's the Democrats' turn to head off the cliff. Suits me!

Anyway, that's...
My two cents

Carrying over from my msg last week, I got dismissed from the jury pool yesterday. One of the defense attys booted me with one of his premptory (sp?)challenges. Don't mind getting fired in this situation. Was scheduled to last three weeks - murder trial.

How would one characterize someone who works hard to lose a war through words and deeds?..Working to win the war is patriotic.
