I was thinking about this and thought I'd get the opinion of FR. If there were no term linits, and W could run for a 3rd term, would he win the nomination? Would he have widespread conservative support? How much?
Putting to one side the organization/money card and assuming that that was all a wash, if the primary in 2008 shaped up as:
Bush McCain Romney Giuliani Gingrich Brownback Hunter Huckabee
Who would win? Would would you vote for? Who would be the best chance to win 2008?
Absolutely. They hung him out to dry.
I will never vote for another Bush -- period.
Bush? NFWIH...in other words...no chance. He's be like LBJ...forced to pull out before the primaries really get going.
Not for me. The Miers fiasco, the present status on the border, his position on illegal immigrants and lately his indiference to the Immigration Officers who were put in jail for doing their job... Had enough of him. You asked :)
I understand just fine. But I don't think Bush would be nominated either if he could run.
I would probably vote for GWB again because: (1) he would continue to fight the WOT (2) he would continue to appoint great justices to the SCOTUS and we would "take back" the Court.
Bush has a bird in his bosom for the open borders concept. It trancends his loyalty to the GOP, and, I shudder to think, even to the USA. It is time for him to go.
If the nomination were being decided today, I would say 'no.'
Would he have widespread conservative support? How much?
In a GOP primary, probably not. In the general election, he probably would. How much support? Hard to say - depends on his opponents.

Giuliani

Giuliani

Giuliani
Probably not, and I genuinely think he'd be urged to step aside. His popularity is in the tank, and he's isolated himself from his base on spending and the border.
One of the biggest problems I have with the Bush administration is that they've been absolutely horrific in fighting back against the Democrat publicity machine. They've beaten him relentlessly, and it's only on a rare occasion that he has stepped forward and countered them. Just really bad PR work.
I think it's time for new blood. Preferably someone willing to address spending, the economy, tort reform, and the list goes on. And a communicator this time. Definitely a communicator. Bush has all too often failed because he hasn't been able to convey the urgency of the situation and the folly of his opponents.
NO! IF GWB ran for dog catcher I wouldn't even vote for him in that position.
What is that supposed to mean?
Were you for it?
Were you against it?
Or are you upset it did not go through?
GWB, without a doubt!
Like someone posted before. WOT and more conservative judges. Besides he'd probably finally do something about the borders just to win. In any case the WOT and good appointed judges are the most important issues for me right now and GWB is good on both issues.
Bush - It's an honor to have him, but at a time of Hamiltons, we need a Jefferson. Last choice unless Huckabee isn't as good.
McCain - I don't know what those maggots did to him in Vietnam but he's clearly unfit to be President. I feel sorry for the guy.
Romney - Big reason for Healey's lost. Too much unknown re: policies. Will instantly lose MA and conservatives who don't trust him on abortion. No go.
Giuliani - Hamiltonian and socially liberal. No thank you.
Gingrich - Baggage plus Xlintoon's smears. But conservative. Two.
Brownback - Strong on some issues, not so much on others. Still choice number three.
Hunter - Number one choice.
Huckabee - Dunno. Will have to look into him more. Either four or five.
But I'd sooner vote any of these guys over the DNAZI candidate, whether it's Osama, the Queen B!tch, Prettyboy Lawyerpants, or any of the other communists and degenerates from the Red party.
I'm not even sure what nocommies meant by that silly statement. No matter what he meant, he's wrong. If he's arguing it was a bad idea. He's wrong. If he's arguing W did not do enough to get it through, he's wrong.
I wouldn't vote for W again. My reason is not comparable to those already stated.
I just wouldn't want to put him through four more years of being so viciously attacked by our compliant media.
I can't stand what this man has been through. For whatever his faults, he doesn't deserve what happens to him in the media, on any given day. He is better than that.
No. Instead of a rehash of the same carping from the MSM, let's get a new man in office, and give this one a well deserved break. Without W, I feel confident in saying, many of us would be dead already.
As for new prospects, it can be done. We can damned sure take back congress as well! The Demoncrats forget that, regardless the number of seats, they won by a slim number, in an off year.
Activists voted in the last election, they won't be so alone in the 08 contest.
This life long Republican is done voting for W or any other Bush placed on the voting ticket.
Am I tired of all things Bush and all things Clinton? Yes.
I wouldn't vote for Bush again.
I am voting Brownback in the primary -- strong on social and economic issues.
If it were possible I would vote for George W Bush.Do not change horses in mid stream
