CARACAS, Venezuela -- A U.S. congresswoman called on the Bush administration Wednesday to reconsider its ban on selling parts for U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets to Venezuela, urging improved ties between the two nations.
U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, a Texas Democrat, told reporters that she was making the first U.S. congressional visit to Venezuela since President Hugo Chavez's December re-election with the message: "I want an immediate repairing of the relations between the United States and Venezuela."
Jackson Lee described Venezuela as a friendly nation that the U.S. should cooperate with and said that the F-16 jets, which are built in Texas, was an issue of concern to her constituents in Houston.

As soon as I read Sheila Jackson Lee, I stopped reading and started laughing.
Yes, when I first saw the headline, I asked myself "Who the heck is urging the US to reconsider Venezuela ban?" Then I read who it was and laughed.
This is the same dingbat who thought that the Apollo 11 astronauts landed on Mars.

Jackson-Lee is really a piece of work. She wants to sell F-16 parts to a sworn enemy but does not want her country's citizens to own guns.

The large majority of her constituents could care less about the F-16s. The only thing they care about is when their next Govt. check is going to arrive.

The most amazing thing to me is how she keeps getting reelected. Her district is mostly inner-city Houston and she wins by a landslide every time she runs.
I will say this to her credit; there is never a camera moment in her district where she is not front and center. She is quicker to the side of victim than a lawyer if she thinks she can score political points. Like a shark senses blood in the water, Sheila Jackson Lee senses an opportunity to get in front of a camera.
