I know I'm going to sound like an evil prick here, but truth-be-told, those jobs do not belong to your husband or your son. Those jobs belong to the employer, and he can hire whoever the heck he wants to.
Really, anyone could take business away from your family if they're willing to do the work for less money. Norwegians, Slovaks, Scots, Japanese or Yankees could do exactly the same thing as the Mexicans, if they so chose. It has nothing at all to do with the other workers' race, but with their economic situation.
So, please don't perpetuate the already rampant image of conservatives as racist jerks. Nobody likes for their family to be put out of work, but it's important to be honest about how and why it happens.
It doesn't happen because the other guy is Mexican.

Maybe the brickmasons could find a way to build an appreciation and new market for high-end, high-quality brickmasonry, the way Starbucks created a market for great coffee. It would require a lot of work, brains, planning, and even some competition, but what the hey?
They could also take advantage of unionization the same way that it is done in New York City and other large cities. (Whoops, that's a liberal idea, can't have that.)

Uncle Sam's Hammer was made in the U.S. but forged in Mexico. Bush is allowing it and now it is simply a race to the bottom as U.S. workers have to compete with sub-standard labor just to stay alive.Just as our economy is falling apart so will all of our building simply because people want to save a few bucks and hire illegal aliens. Soon so will the American Dream of everyone who is just now entering the work force and seeing how hard it is to compete. This is our country but Bush is giving it away... Well Mr. Bush, when Juan and Jose finish your construction and return to Mexico with all of the money AND the Labor warranty (if any), dont raise my taxes to compensate. Bristol Compressors completely closed down a couple of months ago, putting hundreds of people out of work. I do not know of the status of the one in Mexico though.
