Sick of Mexicans Taking our Jobs

I am getting really sick of the Mexican Invasion costing so many jobs in the Southwest Virginia- East Tennessee area. My husband is a brickmason. He is the 5th generation mason in his family- our son is the 6th. Up until just a couple of years ago brickmasons had contractors ringing their phones off of the wall wanting them to do work for them. My husband had to turn down dozens of callers because he couldn't do it all. Things have sure changed . Now, a lot of contractors in this area have gotten dollar signs in their eyes and all that they can see are cheap Mexican workers. My husband has actually had a contractor (real builders that know how to actually build a house are really scarce around here anymore) pull Mexicans on the job that he was working on because he was in such a hurry to get it finished that he couldn't wait the 2 weeks that it would have taken to do the whole job. They will pull in a huge crew and wipe the job out real quick. They waste a lot of brick though (they get paid by the 1000 brick). My husband is a very good, fast mason. His speed and quality is not the issue here. Most of these workers cannot even speak English. It is really aggravating to have lived in a place your entire life and have your livlihood seriously threatened by people that are not supposed to be here in the first place. How do we get rid of this problem? Also, on another related note: It was announced today that there are hundreds of jobs being cut in ANOTHER local factory, Bristol Compressors. I was told several months ago that a construction site in Mexico was marked with a sign that read:" Future site of Bristol Compressors" Is this a coincidence or is there another company by the name of Bristol Compressors?

I also question how far the Congress and Senate can go against the will of the People. We are the true government, according to our founding documents, and THEY... the 3 branches... are our employees.

Big point: John Kerry, John Murtha and others consistently, deliberately go against not only the will but perhaps even more importantly, the best interests of the People in whose name they act in spite of--IN SPITE OF--their oaths of office. There is no question, some like these will go to ANY extreme to circumvent, thwart and ignore the will and best interest of the People--People of course being the actual Citizens whose allegiance is faithful. I have to say that because there are many who are IN America (even born here) but for whom it must be said America IS NOT IN THEM.

Minor point: The three branches are not technically employees; I believe it correct to say they are actually the plurality's proxy and agent for majority rule, while the employees themselves are both of these and our employees as well--actually hired and paid via our proxy the Federal Government, via its proxy the Federal Reserve.

Ping to several others for verificaton on the latter point. Regrettably on the former point, discussion is moot.

Maybe the brickmasons could find a way to build an appreciation and new market for high-end, high-quality brickmasonry, the way Starbucks created a market for great coffee. It would require a lot of work, brains, planning, and even some competition, but what the hey?

They could also take advantage of unionization the same way that it is done in New York City and other large cities. (Whoops, that's a liberal idea, can't have that.)

You are obviously not up on hiring laws. You must have a SS# or valid green card. You must fill out an I-9 showing proof of being able to legally work in the US. I'm not going to take the time to explain it to you but no, you can't "hire anyone you want". This refers also to your post #358 which stated "an employer can hire whomever he pleases". That is blatently false and you are apparently not knowledgeable in this area.

The Immigration Reform and Control Act establishes rules for all employers throughout the country. It prohibits the employment of unauthorized aliens, as well as the continued employment of such individuals. It also requires every employer to screen all job candidates who receive job offers to determine their true identity and legal authority to work in the U.S.

Boy, that was cheap shot!! How do you know what he will do. He usually will tackle jobs nobody else will do.

I read it with an implied tag. After all, how many tell us the illegal invaders are only doing the jobs Americans won't do?

The three branches of government ARE the "true government". They're our representatives, not our employees. They are supposedly held accountable through the electoral process.

If it's really the will of the People that immigration take center stage, then election results should reflect that. Up to now, they have not.


We the CITIZENS are sovereign and we delegate responsibilities to the Federal, State and Local governments. Behold the phrase "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed" -- it's not just for Early American Focus Groups any more...

FDR's legacy includes some very bad aspects--yet also this PROFOUND quote:

The only sure bulwark of continuing liberty is a government strong enough to protect the interests of the people, and a people strong enough and well enough informed to maintain its sovereign control over the government. -- Franklin Delano Roosevelt

ILLEGAL Immigration indeed is a concern among everyone of faithful allegiance informed about the subject. Unfortunately and deliberately, it is downplayed and we must ensure that our 'humble public servants' all the way from the White House down to the local Registrar of Voters honor their Oath of Office.

Importantly, regardless of the current mood and 'will' of the People as reported by the news media--and even as may appear to be indicated by contemporary elections (regardless of whether or not any fraud is alleged or actually occurs) the officials are sworn to defend and protect the CONSTITUTION. THERE'S your Republic and your proper allegiance. Thank GOD for the wisdom of our Founding Fathers!

We the people are definitely the sovereigns.

The Declaration, however, does not define the government. That's left to the Constitution.

"The People" don't make laws -- our representatives do. The sovereign power does lie with the people -- in the form of voting. The people, however, do not govern.

Thanks, Spirit. I favor the "employees" concept at this time because the majority of the elected ones are not "representing" the people, their constituency, at all. Also, the fact that they are remunerated by our tax dollars --- and quite generously --- lends weight to their employee status.

I'm not sure the Constitution provides for their remuneration at our expense, nor the privilege of awarding themselves raises every session, but let's hear from the Constitutional scholars on that one...

You know. I think I like your hyper free market idea. No interference between employer and employee. As an ER physician I am bound by all kinds of rules on how I can sell my services. based on your anything goes model I should be able to negotiate my services with each individual patient, ( gonna be interesting negotiating with that patient having chest pain!). Also I want cash up front, and if you can't pay, SEE YA. Yup I like your idea a lot. Hope I get to see you some day in my ER Mr "Capital Allocator" cause I got such a deal for you....
