I am getting really sick of the Mexican Invasion costing so many jobs in the Southwest Virginia- East Tennessee area. My husband is a brickmason. He is the 5th generation mason in his family- our son is the 6th. Up until just a couple of years ago brickmasons had contractors ringing their phones off of the wall wanting them to do work for them. My husband had to turn down dozens of callers because he couldn't do it all. Things have sure changed . Now, a lot of contractors in this area have gotten dollar signs in their eyes and all that they can see are cheap Mexican workers. My husband has actually had a contractor (real builders that know how to actually build a house are really scarce around here anymore) pull Mexicans on the job that he was working on because he was in such a hurry to get it finished that he couldn't wait the 2 weeks that it would have taken to do the whole job. They will pull in a huge crew and wipe the job out real quick. They waste a lot of brick though (they get paid by the 1000 brick). My husband is a very good, fast mason. His speed and quality is not the issue here. Most of these workers cannot even speak English. It is really aggravating to have lived in a place your entire life and have your livlihood seriously threatened by people that are not supposed to be here in the first place. How do we get rid of this problem? Also, on another related note: It was announced today that there are hundreds of jobs being cut in ANOTHER local factory, Bristol Compressors. I was told several months ago that a construction site in Mexico was marked with a sign that read:" Future site of Bristol Compressors" Is this a coincidence or is there another company by the name of Bristol Compressors?
Those are computer issues, not internet issues. The computer has led to the loss of many jobs now considered obsolete (like typesetter)- printing industry and otherwise.
Compete means hire illgals? Wow. So how many other laws do you break? Please post your contact information so we can have the INS and IRS show up at your place of business.
If we were talking about LEGAL residents getting those jobs, you'd have a point.
To this day I can't buy raisins with out thinking that "I heard it through the grapevine!"
Thank you, good point. My husband will be 50 years old this year. He has done this kind of work since he was 15. We are used to having to deal with extreme weather conditions and aggravating contractors that don't have their ducks in a row, but, this is something entirely different. He is one of the hardest working men that I have ever known.
And you are part of the problem -- obviously, you make your money at the other end of it -- cheap labor -- crappy construction -- and the community gets to foot the bill for the illegals living expenses -- but hey, what are laws for if not to break, huh? Morality to you is stupid, right? Obeying laws is outdated, right? So what other laws should we break with impunity? Your arrogance is outstanding, however.
The answer is really very simple..
Offer a good or a service that someone perceives to have value and people will buy it.
I'm not making in judgment as to whether it's right or wrong. I'm just stating the facts.
This is how it works, embrace the reality or perish.
Some folks will and some folks won't.
That's the great thing about America, it's all up to you.
Now is the time too, since the new home market is slowing down. If the ball gets rolling before it takes off like a rocket again, the alliance of builders would be in very high demand.
Yes, and hopefully one day those of us with morals will able to force the government to throw sociopaths who engage in criminal enterprise (like hiring illegal aliens) in jail. I will not sacrifice my ethics for money. Apparently you do.
Actually I totally understand what's going on.
These people are here and they are willing to work for less. The government has no interest in stopping them.
We elected them! Now live with the reality!
No, I will not sacrifice my morals and ethics to "get with the program". You sold out buddy.
I trade stocks, options and futures for a living.
I'm one of the guys who ran gas up to $3.5 a gallon last year and then sold it with both hands when we hit $70 per barrel of oil.
Last year was a good year!
Piss poor quality? That sounds like the union contractors around here and none of them are Mexicans!
I'm all for that, with one SLIGHT change:
If someone is here ILLEGALLY, throw their a$$es out. If you knowingly hire an illegal, you get prosecuted.
No, they wouldn't. Which is not the point. I guess they'd like it better if I just took unemployment insurance, food stamps, and waited it out (until my "skill set" was better suited)? Or perhaps blaming A)rich guys for soaking up all the wealth, or B)blaming illegal Mexicans for "taking all the jobs."
"Do you think you have some divine right to those contract dollars? Sounds to me like your hubby is too damned expensive."
Are you REALLY that stupid or just pretending?
Lets see.....one employer pays all his help on the books and runs a legit business.........another (scumbag) employer hires all illegals and pays them off the books (no FICA, SS, insurance)..
Who has more overhead?
Who can under bid the other?
