He's in the running for the worst president ever.

If you hate America and its prominence on the world stage, absolutely.

Who else attacked his own countrymen to establish a powerful, centralized government?

He apparently attacked his own countrymen by shelling Fort Sumter. Nice logic, genius.

He's responsible for the deaths of 600,000 Americans.

Secession wasn't his idea. Nor was it his idea to attack a US fort.

The emancipation proclamation didn't free any slaves; it exempted all Union states, and southern territories under Union control.

Lincoln did not claim that it freed slaves - the EP gave slaves of seditious masters the right to claim their own freedom.

He hated blacks

This is an obvious lie. Frederick Douglass was a friend and confidante of Lincoln and gave a warm address at his memorial.

As were many prominent black leaders of that time and for decades thereafter.

People say he saved the Union; he ended it in the sense that the U.S. was no longer a voluntary union of states once he was through.

You sign a contract, you honor it. Too bad it took a war to remind some people of their responsibilities.

Sic semper tyrannis.

Said John Wilkes Booth, 1865's answer to Sean Penn.

There are other views of the world besides those of cowardly, alcoholic actors.

Clinton was named after his father, W. Jefferson Blyth.

And his father was named after?

Anyway, he wrote the Declaration.

Fifteen years before he was president. George HW Bush was the youngest combat pilot in US Naval history. Does that make him a better president?

JFK was actually one of the most inconsequential presidents in the history of this country, which pretty much confirms the power that overblown media hype has on people.

Amen, brother.

And don't forget Warren G. Harding. He didn't do a damn thing except for gamble, drink, and womanize, none of which did any harm toward liberty.

Have to agree on Washington. Best ever. Those were the days when Presidents (all elected leaders, really) were very well-educated men of letters, courageous, and extraordinarily articulate. Those men were giants.

Today, we are surrounded by midgets, the most prominent of whom can't even read a speech without the audience either grimacing in pain and embarassment or robotically clapping. Sad.

The fact that he killed 600,000 Americans in order to consolidate the power of the Federal Government

He didn't start any war.

He finished a war others had begun.

The blood of those 600,000 dead stain the hands of those who thought they could destroy the Union for fun and profit.

John F. Kennedy, with 14%. Bill Clinton (13%)…

As expected 27% of the population is so rabidly left wing stupid that they do not have any intelligence to know what a great President means. If you poll 100 people in the street and ask them how do you remember Bill Clinton 70% of them will say “The President who had sex with that intern”, yep that is greatness all right. As far as JFK goes he has been the most overrated President ever, the man achieved absolutely nothing. The left wing lunatics ranked BJ Clinton and John Kennedy ahead of George Washington the founder of the nation, the leader of the independence war, and the man who set an example of how need to be President, and they ranked those two ahead of a democrat FDR who lead the nations to win WW II.

Lincoln was the devil incarnate.

Idiotic post of the day

Not really...Lincoln is justly despised by many Americans...and not just Sons of the Confederacy

If you're familiar with the debates over the Constitution...the battles between the Anti-Federalists and the Federalists...you know that many of the Founders feared that the newly created federal government would one day crush the soverignty of the states and, in doing so, destroy the decentralized republic that most Americans recognized as vital to the preservation of their liberties

The end of the Civil War realized all of the things that the Anti-Federalists warned against and the Federalists were confident would never happen. The idea that the federal government would form a military that would invade American states, kill hundreds of thousands of Americans, completely destroy the Shenenandoah Valley, imprison the Maryland state legislature, imprison newspapermen and shut down their presses, suspend habeas corpus...that vision would have absolutely horrified Americans of the 18th century. It, in fact horrified many Americans who lived through the Civil War...including many in the north...and all for what?

To force 11 states to submit to federal rule...it sounds like something the Soviet Union may have done to its "states"

My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union
--Abraham Lincoln letter to Horace Greeley, August 22, 1862

What if you hate only the northern part of America?

Then, by definition, you hate America.

You can't half-love your country and be a patriot.

More than any President, he increased the power and scope and intrusiveness of the federal government.

FDR, LBJ, and W, of course, have increased it even more, though.

Does not compute.

The logic police are on their way with a lesson and reprimand for you!

Abe gets the "GUILT" vote.

JFK & Clinton get the "WOMEN vote. [Feelings only please!!]

FDR gets the "OLD TIMERS" vote.

Reagan gets the "ONLY CONSERVATIVE" vote and George Washington gets the "Wasn't he the 1st President?" vote.

My choice amongst those listed is George [who could have been KING] Washington. Ronald Reagan no. 2. [Commie Killer] Honest Abe at 3. [Hard to fathom or even imagine that day and age]

Sadly, we are closer than ever to slavery today than anytime since the Civil War. Slaves of the omnipotent state in perpetual war. And that's exxagerating only about 15%.

Friend,

You're taking quite a large assumption in attempting to ascertain why some mother names her son 'Jefferson'. You or I have no way of knowing why. For the record, Bill Clinton's father was the 3rd William Jefferson Blyth, so, you'd have to go a long way back...

Let me say about Thomas Jefferson: He is the principle writer of the Declaration of American Independence. He is a pre-eminent persona in our history for that and many other reasons. Why you want to demean him, I do not know. Jefferson did more than write the document; he and the other writers truly did place their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor on attempting to break from England to establish independent States. Thomas Jefferson is a great American.

To compare Bush's service as a combat pilot has no comparison at all to writing the founding document of our country. Come on now.

Who else attacked his own countrymen to establish a powerful, centralized government?

If memory serves, the Rebels shot first at Fort Sumter.

He's responsible for the deaths of 600,000 Americans.

The slavers were responsible for the war, and started it with their moronic secessionist movement before Lincoln even took office.

The emancipation proclamation didn't free any slaves; it exempted all Union states, and southern territories under Union control.

Which was done in order to preserve the peace in those areas that were already under Federal control. But Lincoln knew full well that slavery was effectively dead as soon as the proclamation was read.

He hated blacks, and was in favor of African colonization.

Fredrick Douglass, who in his time met hundreds of white Abolitionists, said that Old Abe was the only white man that he'd ever met who treated him as an equal.

Sic semper tyrannis.

Still smarting under the tyranny of northern oppression, eh?
