Bulgaria-Unearthed Temples A Millenium Older than Egypt Pyramids

Temples that archaeologists have unearthed in the eastern Rhodope Mountains in Bulgaria are about a thousand years older than the pyramids in Egypt and the Mesopotamian civilization, experts claim.
Archaeologists Ana Raduncheva and Stefanka Ivanova said in an interview for BTA that the whole system of temples in the Rhodope region dated back to the Vth millenium B.C. This is almost 4,000 years before the Thracian people settled on these lands.
At the end of the Chalcolithic Age, the rock temples were abandoned for a large period of time. The Thracians rediscovered them about 2,500 years later, the archaeologists claim.
Chalcolithic Age = Beginning of copper age.

Some Confusion.
"The literature of European archaeology generally avoids the use of 'chalcolithic' (they prefer the term 'Copper Age'), while Middle-Eastern archaeologists regularly use it. The Copper Age began much earlier in the Middle East, while the transition from the European Copper Age to its own full-fledged Bronze Age is far more rapid."
Blam - Fascinating as always. So many Eastern European areas to explore after so many years being closed to outsiders. I knew a man from Romania(at the time, it was still under Communist control). He spoke of times as a child laborer, of digging up Roman coins and the soldiers that took them from he and the others. There must be thousands of stories like his and so many as yet undiscovered finds. Thanks for your post.
This is an ancient area. Many Europeans can trace their roots to this Ice Age refuge. Maybe as much as 25,000 years ago.

Vth millenium B.C. So nice to see that some scientists still use B.C> instead of B.C.E. which began in the exact same year as B.C.!
This whole area, west of the Black Sea is very interesting, maybe the very origins of civilization.
It was an Ice Age refuge, a lot of Europeans can trace their DNA to that area, mainly Northern Europeans. There were at least two more refuges at the same time, One in Iberia and one in the Ukraine.
