Just finished reading a book about Truman. There is truth to what you both said.
Truman had McCarthy to deal with, he had problems with Eisenhower during the 1952 campaign. He didn't get support sometimes from his own party. They supported him at the beginning of the Korean war but not as it was going on. And he had all those problems with MacArthur, who sabotaged his foreign policy. His problems with Korea were largely because of the confusion between what he said in Washington and what MacArthur said in the field. They all gave Truman a really hard time. He was negotiating a peace in Korea when the Army was in a good position and MacArthur was talking about bombing Manchuria, and bombing China, there was talk of using a nuclear bomb, so that put an end to the negotiations.
Truman was a very brave man, and he had huge problems over Korea at the end of his presidency. Eisenhower, when he was running for president, repudiated the policy that he helped form and put in place, and then they had a disagreement about McCarthy because of what he was saying about George Marshall and the secretary of state Acheson. Truman had to defend members of his cabinet.
The press liked Truman most of the time, he had more problems with members of Congress and Eisenhower.

Who is their George Galloway. Which among them personally profited during Saddam's rein of terror? Which of these Democrats is the leadership protecting? Murtha? Bonior? McDermott? Rockefeller? This is a very interesting topic. That's why I would be especially interested to know who the major contributors would be to a Presidential campaign by Chuck Hagel, if he should decide to run.
As for the others, my guess would be to look for major investments in European companies that presently have large contracts with Iran and previously with Iraq. How come the Democrats are so sensitive about Iran? And during the 2004 campaign, jon cary came out with a scheme to sell nuclear technology, including reactors, to Iran? Some Iranian student groups might have more information. I'll look into this.

Yep, and that is why the Rats are getting nervous. IMHO, they are behind closed doors planning how to get her out of The top position without incurring her vicious wrath. If it is already apparent her over reach, and too far left strategy. She is so Sanfrancisco she has no clue what real Americans think, and neither does Murtha. She is obviously putting herself above the entire Country like Royalty. She does not try to hide her ignorance of what should be done as a leader, she plunges head long into more lousy appointments. I guess she thinks nobody will have the guts to kick her downstairs. I can see the Rats that are getting antsy about her behavior digging up all the dirt and leaking it to the Newspapers. They (DBM/DNC) all have a stake in this in 2008, and she is the face of the Party. They appear way too left with her leadership and even a lefty like Hoyer looks moderate next to her.

Levin and the rats really don't care, they are scared that the surge could work and that's the last thing they want. The war is not their issue therefore we must lose.

I thought this thread was contentious today...
I just visited the thread that Jim Robinson posted...re: religion in America vs. Rudy...
YIKES!!!!
This thread was a church social compared to that one!!
To: Miss Marple
I agreed with Pukin and I agree with you as well.
I can't participate in this thread live because of church, but I always read it. It's one of the best sources of information on Free Republic.
Sometimes I read something that makes me want to watch the repeat of a show. That's true today of Meet the Press because I want to see Tony (it comes on at 9 PM Central) here.

You need to get on the road sometime and listen to talk radio all over America, They have big numbers and are very influential. Even a crazy looney tunes like Savage has a faithful audience. These hard working American people that are stuck on the road in their jobs are pretty conservative and do not listen to the Media, they get their News from Talk Radio. I can get probably ten talk shows a day if I am on the road long enough, and sometimes it was hard to tell from the tone and accusatory sliming of GWB that it was not Airhead America.

All you said is basically true in addition to the dems turning out many blue dogs who acted like us but were dems in hiding. But sleuth has a valid point too,I would not be so quick to dismiss her.
There were many pissed off 100%ers who didn't get their way here or there and heaven only knows how or even if they voted, that cost us probably enough to tilt several races.
Shortly before the election those of us who follow politics closely as sleuth, you and I both do could not help but sense a huge disaffection within our party. Chances are good it translated into rat votes to some degree we will probably never know how much or to what extent but it should not be ignored.
Let's hope like you said, we get it together and soon, we have lots of senate seats up for grabs next time around.

Schnitt is a lightly syndicated semi-conservative talk show host airing 3-6 pm eastern. He originates out of Tampa and has a major affiliate in Miami and many others, he gets loco quite often. Keep picking on my FRiends and we could be her a while.

Thanks for the information, Hoosierpearl.
I was surprised to read that, about 5 months into the Korean War, Truman threatened to use the A-bomb.
Truman hints use of A-bombs, November 30, 1950 ---[front page of Mansfield News-Journal]
Declares U.N. Won't Give Up Korea Mission
Washington - (AP) - President Truman said today active consideration is being given to use of the atomic bomb against the Chinese communists if that step is necessary. The President spoke of this possibility at a news conference in which he also expressed continued hope a third world war can be averted.
The same paper had another article:
Chinese Reds cut off Marine DivisionFoe Opens Two-Way Assault Tokyo -- (UP)-- Communist China suddenly shifted its offensive, to northeast Korea today and cut off the entire U.S. First Marine division and part of an Army division in a furious ne two-way assault. The Chinese Reds sliced across supply roads behind the Marines and two regiments of the U.S. Seventh division and at the same time launched a heavy fronal attack against the northernmost Leathernecks on the west side of the Chosin reservoir.
November 30, 1950 was also notable for this fact
On November 30, 1950 -- 781 Americans died for Korea's freedom

Good grief....I am watching Tony Snow on Meet the Depressed..and I think I figured out Fat Timmy's tactic to keep Tony from making him look like a complete idiot.
It hasn't worked, mind you....but Fat Timmy isn't just asking questions...he is reading all of these LONG editorials...which give Tony less time to answer any questions.
I can't stand all of this READING!!! jeez louise!!
THREE long editorials he has read already!!
To: Txsleuth
I see you figured out his plan of "attack."
Tony didn't let it phase him.
Tony's problem is that he has complex things to explain without lying and over using sound bites. He is doing yoeman's work. I admire him for it.
