Romney is at least TRYING TO FAKE IT.

Rudy is not even trying.

Romney is going to have to be a lot more convincing before pro-lifers take him seriously.

His conversion to pro-life has to be abject. Groveling even. He has to stake it out so clearly that he can never back away from it. Otherwise, he will rightly be regarded as nothing more than a flipflopping opportunist.

Cognitive dissonance is holding two conflicting opinions at the same time. Romney says he has changed his mind or undergone a conversion, which is quite a different matter.

I will continue to follow the various Republican candidates with interest, and make up my mind when it's time.

I predict that Joseph R. Giganti's email, phone machine, fax, mailbox, etc., are going to be swamped for many weeks to come for this despicable attempt to smear the sterling reputation of Jim Bopp. Legions of pro-life activists will come to the defense of Bopp and will denounce Giganti.

Giganti clearly doesn't know the facts and obviously didn't take the time to review Romney's record as Governor or to question Romney personally as Bopp did before making his endorsement (see Exclusive Interview with James Bopp on Mitt Romney).

More about James Bopp, Jr. Esq.:

James Bopp is a very prominent attorney and leading figure in the pro-life movement. His practice of law emphasizes the biomedical issues of abortion, foregoing and withdrawing life-sustaining medical treatment and assisted suicide, not-for-profit corporate and tax law, and campaign finance and election law. Bopp is a leading opponent of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform law.

Many hundreds of pro-life activists have used Bopp’s legal arguments and memos in their lobbying efforts and work to draft legislation. Bopp has given speeches at many pro-life events and has been an editor for multiple publications. He has served as a member of several committees including:

• General Counsel to National Right to Life Committee (1978-present)
• General Counsel to James Madison Center for Free Speech (1994-present)
• Special Counsel to Focus on the Family (2004-present)
• President of National Legal Center for the Medically Dependent and Disabled, Inc (1984-present)
• President’s Committee on Mental Retardation
• Congressional Biomedical Ethics Advisory Committee
• National Institutes of Health, Human Fetal Tissue Transplantation Research Panel
• RNC member

Can some single issue pro-life conservative answer something for me? If your perfect pro-life all of his life candidate somehow won the election, what could he possibly do to outlaw abortion?

Then there is his actual voting record. The Dems in Mass. gave him a failing grade. WOOHOO!

This is a sloppy attempt at journalism. This article says that Bopp is lying but nowhere do they ask him directly to explain about his "apparent" incosistency. And then they creatvie a motive which says that he is a traitor who is bought with money.

Look, since Mitt took office in Massachussetts, January 2003, show me where he passed or vetoed legislation that was anti-life?

The answer is zilch!

Conversely, since Mitt took office in Massachussetts, January 2003, show me where he passed or vetoed legislation that was pro-life?

-Vetoed embryonic cloning.
-Vetoed emergency pro-abortion anti-conception legislation.
and many other vetoes were pro-life in the affirmative.

If you doubt me that he governed conservatively then look at the record:

http://www.massscorecard.org/MA-Gov/Mitt_Romney.htm

He opposed the Libs for all but one of his vetos.

EV,

I am sure you want to win, but I see only two outcomes. Either it is Rudy or Mitt. Which one would you prefer?

If you want Rudy to win, then hope for a late entry in the fall into the race by Newt. The early primary process is putting a huge premium on money and with Newt playing footsie with the social conservative wing of the party for the next 7 months is causing all of the 2nd tier candidates NOT to gain traction and it severely hurts their ability to raise funds and to stage an upset--in fact those two conditions will make it impossible for a dark horse to emerge.

McCain will flounder, Rudy will gain strength, Newt freezes the field by his inaction, and Romney fills the vacuum if Newt does not run. Otherwise, if Newt does wait and runs in the fall then Rudy wins. Game Set Match for Rudy.

Is that what you want?

the condition that results whenever an individual attempts to hold two incompatible, if not contradictory, thoughts at the same time even in the face of mounting evidence to the contrary.

This sentence makes no sense.

Hey, Joe, How are ya? Long time no see.

Sorry we disagree on this one. Perhaps, James Bopp, believes as I do, that supporting a viable candidate running on a pro-life platform, is better than supporting a proven pro-lifer who isn't viable. Frankly, a far worse scenario for the unborn would be if an ardently pro-choice democrat like Hillary wins the presidency.

... Romney camp ... seems to clearly recognize that they lack credibility ... they've opted to close that gap by spreading around barrels of cash ...

And there is the basic problem with American politics today. Cash will fix all problems according to professional political consultants.

Nice article. I'm not quite sold on Romney (as of now, I'm praying Hunter can make history). And I can understand the skepticism. BUT... why is it that I can never find anyone who's happy about Romney's about-face on abortion?

Aren't we in the pro-life movement trying to convert people? And, if so, why do we lambaste someone who's been converted?

Romney's conversion is what makes him attractive to me as a pro-lifer. Here we have a candidate that not only is pro-life, but because of his change of positioning on the subject is forced to talk about it on the stump.

I think that'll give us some publicity for the pro-life cause that we wouldn't otherwise get in the MSM.

If for no other reason, that's why I'm glad Romney's in the race...

”The possibility that Bopp may be receiving payment for his advisory services would readily explain his gushing endorsement, which both defies fact and logic, but it does not excuse it.”

”As for Bopp's support of Romney and his status as a paid campaign consultant: Shouldn't such a detail be made public to those who would otherwise trust such an endorsement as a heartfelt expression of someone concerned with the best interest of the pro-life movement, rather than a politically expedient offering awarded to the highest bidder?“

”Such information might better inform the public how much weight they should give Bopp's support of Romney. And it also might illuminate what such a betrayal costs: 10, 20 or perhaps 30 pieces of silver?”

__________________________________________

Joseph R. Giganti included the above words in this vicious article that he authored on Feb. 17, 2007 implying that the good name and impressive pro-life credentials of James Bopp, Jr. were up for sale to the highest bidder.

National Review Online recently published an article written by James Bopp, Jr., titled “The Best Choice Is Also a Good Choice - Why social conservatives should support Mitt Romney for president”. At the bottom of the article appears the following footnote (my emphasis added):

— James Bopp Jr. is a lawyer who focuses on nonprofit corporate and tax law, on campaign finance and election law, and on life issues. He most recently joined the Romney Presidential campaign as a special adviser on life issues, an unpaid position.
I note that the online version of Giganti's hit piece now has this statement:

Editor's note: Following the publication of this column, James Bopp Jr. said he is a volunteer and not a paid campaign consultant for the Romney campaign.

Joseph R. made a Giganti mistake in slandering Jim Bopp with the scurrilous, unfounded accusations in this article published at WorldNetDaily. Giganti should apologize to Jim Bopp and to all his WND readers for smearing a great man whose good name is synonymous with the pro-life movement in the U.S.A.

Email to Joseph R. Giganti should be addressed to: joe@veritasmediagroup.com
