My son is currently serving in Iraq, at a post north of Baghdad. He is a gunner with an engineering unit; his main job is watch for bad guys and blast them. The following are comments he made to some friends last night. The episode he discusses was Saturday morning. I thought y'all might be interest in what he had to say about the situation over there. FWIW, his morale is great. You can see he is committed to the mission.
The friggin terrorists tried to hurt our friends today. The attacked some IPs not to far from us, and then when the armor near us responded to the IPs cries for help and came rushing over with some serious firepower, they ran like little girls. My unit saw no action, but we sure heard it. A round flew over us, and so some of the guys who were working with us who dont go out to much took cover. The rest of us just laughed. It was funny. We were behind a hill, and about a kilometer away, so we were pretty safe. A few IPs [Iraqi Police] got hurt, and so prayers go out to those wounded guys. They have to live in this country where thier families could be killed for thier involvement in the Iraqi Police, so I have alot of respect for them.
It really amazes me how the IPs and Iraqi Army persist even though our politicians doubt them back home. I've seen them take terrorists, and detain them. I've seen IA tanks hold the high ground. I dont know why we doubt these guys. They do more of the heavy stuff than we do. They really are stepping up, and though they pay the price (I saw them get hit, they took one KIA, and one more had his guts hanging out) they still fight on. These guys have some serious beliefs in what they can make their country into. I believe in them.
This whole thing going on back home is just not right. We should not run and abandon this country. Saddam needed to be punished. He had ridiculed the world, and had opressed his people. People say that we have brought carnage? We have not done nothing compared to Saddam. He was a killer and did it to his own people. I'm not sorry that we came here, and I'm sure not going to run out on these people. I'm no person to ever do that, and I'll stand by these people here.
One of the translators told me some about the former regime. His brother was killed by Saddam. Every time we talk he says more and more about how much better it is for Iraqis now. The kids smile and wave when they see us pass by. The people here are always nice to us as well. It might be because we carry automatic weapons, but so did Saddam and they sure didnt like him.
Thanks for sharing!
Hey! we have those in Iraq getting the real word out! Ping!
"even though our politicians doubt them back home."
The RATs are trying to paint the Iraqi Army and Police the same way they painted the ARVN; corrupt, incompetant, not worth supporting.
Next time you talk to your son, tell him I said thanks for his service and sacrifice. We need more Americans like him.
I thought he died a while back.
We're with you, JT. I just wish this letter were on every lamestream media outlet around the world.
Thank you so much for your service to our country, and to theirs. The world will be a better place as we continue to fight the war on terror.
God bless your son, and the other soldiers over there fighting for us. Too bad so many in Congress can't see the truth for their own selfish reasons!! >:-(
Prayers for all of you that they come home safely WHEN THE JOB IS FINISHED!
Thanks JT.
you have FReep mail.

Exactly how Ev feels. He too is talking about going back for additional tours.
God bless you JT & Mama too.
It's obvious that the military isn't running away from the situation in Iraq. It is our worthless, stay-at-home politicians who can't take the situation there.
The country is riff with traitors. The promise of the Constitution, Life, Liberty, Happiness, has been betrayed. I fully support a military coup, and military trails and executions of all the traitors.
God Bless your son. Please thank him for his service, and for his prayer for the American People.
I'm so glad your son sounds confident with high morale. God bless him and all the troops. They are fighting to maintain the integrity of our Constitution, not to mention our very safety and freedoms. Without brave men and women like JT, we would be doomed and just another European-type country (or worse). Please tell JT "thank you!!"
God bless you and your son, I pray daily for all the military troops and their families,
"I'm not sorry we came here, and I'm sure not going to run out on these people. I'm no person to ever do that and I'll stand by these people here"................
Words that so eloquently describe the difference between this finest of young men and those who would prevent him from doing what is his expression of love for his country and his fellow human beings!
Words that have brought tears to my dry eyes.
This following is from an email I received from my brother yesterday. He gave me permission to pass it on but asked that I redact his name. I am sickened by the actions of Congress and so is he. Even worse he questions, where is the outrage on the part of those who do support the troops.

Without question
the vote that occurred in the House of Representatives is being reported. I can only imagine what is being reported on al-Qaeda web sites. It was absolutely unbelievable to hear one congressman suggest that "we have lost." You tell everyone you know that people over here hear these comments. I believe it gives aid and comfort to our enemies. Any young Trooper or Marine that hears this "BS" has to ask himself, "why am I putting my life on the line?" "Why do I want to go patrol outside the Green Zone when my elected officials believe my efforts are futile?" Please tell me that people are outraged.
I want my son to grow up in an America that is similar to the land that I knew growing up. I'm not certain this is possible anymore. Our political process has gotten so vicious between the two parties that the only acceptable compromise is the defeat and destruction of the opposition. Sometimes, I wonder if our political rhetoric has gotten so harsh that it means the destruction of our way of life to accomplish an end that will change our country forever.
I'm convinced that the American people are for the most part unaffected by this war. As a people we have not been asked to truly sacrifice. We've not been asked to pay more at the pump, buy bread every other day or turn out our lights early. We need someone to stand up and tell the American people that we face a ruthless, lethal and determined enemy that is hell bent on the destruction of our way of life. Read UBLs "Messages to the World," he clearly outlines his designs to establish an Islamic caliphate, eliminate the US from the middle east and destroy Israel. He will not compromise. He wants the caliphate to control the world in 100 years. For the life of me, I do not know why our leaders do not talk about this every day.
We can win, I'm just not sure we want to win.
