Democrats, "Keeping Our Promise"
email | 17 Feb 2007 | Brian Wolff, DCCC Executive Director

Posted on 02/17/2007 11:18:02 AM PST by DakotaRed

After yesterday's 'Non-binding' resolution was passed, the Democrats have sent out an email, received at my throwaway address. Of course, all the self congratulatory stuff and bashing of Republicans is in it.

To: "Lew Waters" {Me@I’llnevertell.com} From: "Brian Wolff, DCCC Executive Director" {dccc@dccc.org} Subject: Keeping Our Promise Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2007 08:47:15 -0500

Dear Lewis,

Democrats campaigned on the promise to take America in a new direction -- both at home and in Iraq.

We have kept our promises.

In less than 100 Hours, House Democrats delivered: passing legislation to raise the minimum wage, voted to invest in stem cell research, fought to lower student loan interest rates, break the link between lobbyists and legislation, took on the drug companies to make prescriptions more affordable, cut subsidies to Big Oil, and invested in alternative energy sources.

This week, House Democrats fulfilled another promise -- to hold an honest and open debate on the war in Iraq and to hold the Bush Administration accountable for its mismanagement of the Iraq war.

United in support for our troops who are bravely serving in Iraq, Democrats voted today to oppose the President's escalation plan. Republicans simply Rubber Stamped the President's Iraq policy and refused to hold the Bush Administration accountable for its failures in Iraq.

Given the chance to stand up for our troops and ask the tough questions that have long gone unasked and unanswered, Republicans used their time for more hollow partisan attacks and stay the course rhetoric.

Baseless and distorting, Republicans offered up nothing more than shameless name calling:

"...History will not focus on your voting for the resolution authorizing the force, but they will long remember you unleashing the hell that is going to come in Iraq by voting for this resolution." (Rep. Latham, IA-04)

"Congressmen who willfully take action during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs, and should be arrested, exiled or hanged." (Rep. Young, AK-AL)

Democrats want to move us in a new direction -- and are working everyday to make that a reality. The days of the Rubber Stamp Congress are behind us and the Democratic Majority is demanding a plan, accountability and answers.

Our newly elected members spoke honestly about the change they are bringing to Washington:

"Walking in my own combat boots, I saw first hand this Administration's failed policy in Iraq. I led convoys up and down "Ambush Alley" in a Humvee without doors -- convoys that Americans still run today because too many Iraqis are still sitting on the sidelines ...We must make Iraqis stand up for Iraq -- and set a timeline to start bringing our heroes home." (Rep. Murphy, PA-08)

"We can and must do better by our soldiers... Our soldiers are trained to fulfill their mission without question. We as civilian leaders have a duty to question it on their behalf. For the past four years this Republican-led Congress has failed in their duty." (Rep. Walz, MN-01)

"If my 31 years in the military taught me anything, it was that we serve in this all-volunteer military to defend Americans' freedom to think as they please and to say what they think, even if they disagree with their leaders..."(Rep. Sestak, PA-07)

Our troops and our country deserve better than the Republicans' stay the course strategy. As this debate ends, I can assure you the conversation is only just beginning. I hope you continue to stay with us.

Sincerely,

Brian Wolff Executive Director

Most telling to me is the sentence, "United in support for our troops who are bravely serving in Iraq, Democrats voted today to oppose the President's escalation plan."

Only a liberal could see undermining our Troops as "united in support" of them.

The Traitor party is keeping its promise. We all know they intend to surrender and now they are seeking to accomplish their goal.

Like all leftist liars they they hide their intentions behind vague platitudes but to those with eyes and ears we know what they intend.

They are united in surrender and disgrace.

A bunch of cowardly traitors, If they had balls they would vote to shut off all money to Iraq right now and take the blame and the consequences for their actions.

Cowards and treasonous anti-Americans the whole stinking bunch.

Yeah, I got one of them, too. Not sure how I got on their list but any time I need some syrup of ipecac, I just go look at the latest from Jim Webb, Rahm Emmanuel, John Kerry, Chris Dodd or John Murtha, etc. That'll take your appetite away real quick.

Retreat and surrender is all they know.

Fox just reported the measure failed in the Senate, BY 4 VOTES! 7 Republicans jumped ship. We need to keep record of who they are.

"7 Republicans jumped ship. We need to keep record of who they are."

Actually, I'd much rather defeat the Democrats than the RINOS.

Do these idiots think we live in a vacuum and don't know what goes on? They sure act like it.

It's this kind of thinking that gives us the congress we have right now!

Just remember this, "RINOS" ARE Democrats! DEFEAT them in the primaries.

The media is much to blame for their yellow journalism. This is quite sad.

Sadr Visiting “Friends” in Iran

Just as U.S. troops began their sweep to crack down on Iraqi sectarian violence, anti-American Muslim cleric, Moqtada al Sadr and members of his private army left Iraq for an indeterminate stay in Iran. According to spokesmen for al Sadr, he left Baghdad to visit some old friends in Tehran, where he also has family.

In a bid to encourage him to return before President Bush’s surge strategy might work, the Democratic leadership of the U.S. Congress has passed a non-binding vote criticizing the strategy. “Voters didn’t send a Democratic majority to congress to have us sit idly by while Bush plots to undermine everything we’ve worked so hard to achieve,” said Rep. John Murtha (D-Penn). “The people have given us a mandate to counter the president’s foreign and national security policy schemes. Our message to Mr. Sadr is that he needn’t give up hope. We’re on the case. We’ll do what it takes to see that the policies of Mr. Bush are replaced by a new direction.”

Sadr has sought to reassure members of his Mahdi Army left behind in Iraq that his thoughts and prayers will be with them during these difficult times. He called charges of cowardice “unfair.” “This trip was planned a long time ago, way before the recent surge in U.S. attacks,” Sadr claimed. “My airline tickets were non-refundable. It would’ve been a waste not to use them.”

Sadr says he hasn’t abandoned his followers, promising to call everyday or so and to religiously watch for news on al-Jazeera. “It’s not like I will be a stranger,” Sadr said. “I will be with my people in spirit, if not in body.”

No specific date has been set for his return, Sadr says. “I have so many friends here and my family is quite large,” Sadr pointed out. “It would be an insult to deny any of them the pleasure of seeing me. I cannot say how long it will take for me to satisfy all the demands on my time.”

Funny: I don't feel any better off than I did when the GOP was in control. If this is the result of them "keeping their promises," then what was the point of the promise?

Hearing them state "We kept our promise" just reminds me of Michael Schiavo gloating over his dead wife's headstone engraving of "I kept my promise!"

Actually, that is a quote from Abraham Lincoln. Rep. Young was repeating it.

So in essence, Dems are accusing Lincoln of engaging in name calling.

Some things just havent changed.
