How did it get to this point.

Some felt the need to teach the Republican Party a lesson

I will never forget this

No you are far from the only one. More than half the nation does too, I would say WELL OVER half.

It got this way by Liberals, Socialists, and Communists, (all interwoven within the same people) have been allowed to package everything ugly and evil into pretty packages with pretty bows, and have been allowed to unabated! It is high time the good people of American, stand up and oppose every single thing on the list that is their manifesto, and do it loudly! This anti America crap is part of the whole package, and it needs to be stopped.

As Duncan Hunter says, Americans are not made of cotton candy, they don't need pictures on CNN to know that war is not pretty. They know it full well.

Because we have become a majority of people within a nation who want the easy way out while denying we want the easy way out. We want it all NOW, we have lost our character, we reflect a nation concerned with "feelings", not with substance. We are weak now, and that's the truth as I see it. There are many good, strong people within our nation, but sadly not enough to make the needed impact here and around the world.

Are the people in Johnstown, PA proud that they have elected this fake hero of VN and now a traitor to the U.S. and the military in Iraq and Aphfaganistan? I would hang my head in shame.

We became this way because of political correctness....not making people responsible for their actions and a bunch of gutless wonders in Washington that turn tail and run.

Murtha is included in the pack that wants to cut and run. Tuck their tails turn and run. Disgusting. Where are the good politicians? Shame on the republicans that joined forces with the dem/libs. Oh shame on them and I hope they can still look themselves in the mirror when more and more of our brave military are killed and...the USA is attacked once more. God forgive them cause I sure can't and will never vote again.

"How did it get to this point."

1. Tolerating assholes, excusing treason and treachery.
2. Allow "Public Education" to become Leftist Indoctrination centers.
3. Allowing "elected offices" to become lifetime careers for 3rd rate feckless imbeciles who would fail in most private sector challenges.
4. Permitting non contributors to vote.
5. Pretending that all cultures, religions and ethnic moral ethics are equal.
6. Permitting bilingual education in public indoctrination centers.
7. Promoting false "self esteem" in underachievers, rather than pushing students toward true worth or value.
8. Pandering to racial/ethnic minorities...who NEVER reciprocate once they become the majority...
9. Accepting the premise that generation after generation is entitled to welfare for life..
10. Rewarding unwed mothers with taxpayer's money.
11. Never learning that you always get more of whatever you subsidize.
12. Etc. etc.. etc...

I could go on....but you already get the drift..
We as a nation, have lost our way....
We are being led into the abyss by the dumbest, most inept and clearly the most incompetent Public "leadership" the nation has ever suffered under..

There is a reason all previous great civilization have fallen..
They are dragged down by the overwhelming weight of the nonproductive assholes, leaches, cowards and perverts that accumulate....

"Am I the only one who is heartsick at what has become of us as a nation..

Just before I left college in the middle of my second year to enlist in the military, I remember asking my fiance (while we were fighting the effects of tear gas as we tried to walk to class), "What will our country be like when the people who are involved in the rioting, destruction and anti-American rhetoric are in positions of power?"

Unfortunately, we are realizing the result of the patient, incremental influx of socialism and anti-American philosophy that has brought us to this pathetic point.

As others have said, no...

I've long maintained we're dying as a nation. This isn't the killer, of course, but it is another nail in the coffin...

It is worth noting that every generation or so, we apparently have to go through a "democrat revival" so the populace remembers yet again how things are when these guys are at the reins. Although certainly not pretty, the upside is it did happen during an off-year election, so things certainly could be worse.

We need to have bloggers, at the very least, who are there or quite near the action, so as to give us at least one valid source of information that can be used to counter the daily poison that is rationed to us by the MSM.

We need more intellectual activity in the print media, on radio, and yes - even on TV. As was the case in 1980, we must become the people with ideas, and we must argue these ideas quite forcefully and persuasively.

With the daily din the MSM generates, we don't shout over it - we slice through it.

We need a lot more right-wing agitation on college campuses across the nation. It doesn't have to get noticed nationally at first, it just has to get noticed on that campus. That way, we can move from there.

The MSM deigns to ignore us. We must return the favor. We have 2 years (thereabouts). We must embrace the left's old dictum of all politics being local. We must be local everywhere. We must be the ground to the MSM's trees. It is from us that all growth must, and will, ensue.

Obviously, we must organize at all levels. The Right's best thinkers (and their number is legion) must step forward now and begin building the intellectual battering rams that will be successfully employed 12 - 18 months from now.

Pre-election 1980 was an exciting time, for this guy, anyway. True, we had a giant among men emerge for that contest, and that admittedly helped matters along a great deal.

It is not a particularly good strategy to expect the emergence of another such giant this time around, but who is to say it can't, or won't, happen? Still, we must do these things as best we can, and given that we are indeed the backbone of this nation, that effort still oughta be pretty damn good.

CA....

This is gonna sound really cynical but we got here because the American public is fickle.
Check this graph of the Presidents approval.

The President had low approval. Then after 9/11 the public suddenly approved and demanded action. Congress authorized it for Iraq because Afghanistan went so well. The public supported the President. When the war dragged on the public support stopped.

>>>How did it get to this point. <<<

There is no single reason, but inattention to what our schools, both K-12 and Universities, have been teaching in the past 20 years has a lot to do with it.

That and politicians without principle and values....except power.

I'm with ya Dog.

Unfortunately, IMHO, it's gotta get worse, a lot worse, a whole lot worse, before it gets better.

The left has dumbed down our nation so thoroughly that it's gonna take a lot to wake them up.

Sad and deadly.

No, you are not the only one who is heartsick! Not only am I heartsick, I'm furious. Bob Inglis, my Congressman, voted for this resolution, and I don't think I can support him again. He has to know about the traitorous comments of John Murtha versus the heartfelt plea of a man - Sam Johnson, R-Texas, who knows, without a doubt, how this vote will affect our military. You can't be much of a man when you choose to align yourself with a reprobate like Murtha over a man who suffered for his country like Sam Johnson did.

Read Alexander Tyler's quote on "fall of a democracy". I think you'll have a pretty good answer.

No, you are definately NOT the only one who is heartsick (not to mention disgusted). Here in Iowa, our state legislature voted in another meaningless gesture to oppose the troop surge. Combine that with overturning Iowa's ban on human cloning the other day, and the likelihood of gutting our right to work law by allowing the unions to steal from those of us who have no desire to be in their damn unions, and its all going to hell in a handbasket.
